Right after announcing the Magic Vs foldable smartphone and its global availability, Honor have also debuted their more mainstream smartphone series, the Honor 80 lineup. The Honor 80 series will see not one, not two but three different variants, with one for each budget.
Unfortunately for Malaysians, it seems that the Honor 80 series will likely not be coming to our shores. Since launching the Honor 50, the company has typically skipped a generation when it comes to international releases; the Honor 60 didn’t make it outside China for instance while the Honor 70 did launch in Malaysia just a few months ago.
Nevertheless, here’s how much the Honor 80 series will cost in China:
The Honor 80 Pro is the flagship option in the Honor 80 series, and features a large 6.78-inch OLED display pushing a 2700 x 1224p resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display also has curved edges and a peak brightness of 1000nits, along with support for HDR and a billion colours. It measures 7.8mm thick, and weighs roughly 188g.
Under the hood, you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 system-on-chip mated to up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage. Curiously, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Honor is using here is the slightly underclocked version running at just 3.0GHz rather than the more powerful version running at 3.2GHz. It runs MagicOS 7 based on Android 12 out of the box.
In the camera department meanwhile is a triple rear camera setup with a main 160MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by a 50MP, f/2.0 ultrawide shooter and a 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor. You’ll also find a dual camera setup housed in a pill-shaped cutout on the display, housing a 50MP, f/2.4 selfie camera next to a 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor.
Other features of note include a 4,800mAh battery with 66W fast charging, support for 5G, NFC, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and an under-display fingerprint sensor. The Honor 80 Pro will be available in Blue, Pink, Jade and Black colourways.
As for the Honor 80 itself, it will come with a smaller 6.67-inch, FHD+ OLED display pushing a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it doesn’t get the same flagship chip, but instead features the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 782G, the replacement for the popular 18-month old upper midrange Snapdragon 778G. This gets mated to up to 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, along with MagicOS 7.0 based on Android 12.
In the camera department, it gets the same 160, f/1.8MP main camera as the Honor 80 Pro. However, it has a downgraded 8MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera instead along with a 2MP, f/2.4 macro sensor. It also doesn’t get the same dual selfie camera setup, with the Honor 80 featuring just a single 32MP, f/2.4 front-facing camera instead.
Elsewhere, there’s a 4,800mAh battery with 66W fast charging, support for 5G, NFC, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and an under-display fingerprint sensor. It measures 7.7mm thick and weighs about 180g, and comes in Blue, Pink, Jade and Black colourways.
The runt of the litter meanwhile is the Honor 80 SE. Despite being the more affordable model in the Honor 80 lineup, it still has a premium-looking curved edge 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED display pushing a 120Hz refresh rate. Powering it meanwhile is a MediaTek Dimensity 900 system-on-chip mated to up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with MagicOS 7 based on Android 12 out of the box.
In the camera department, it has the most different camera setup compared to the others, as it no longer gets the 160MP shooter. Instead, it has a triple rear camera setup with a main 64MP, f/1.8 camera flanked by a 5MP, f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 2MP, f/2.4 macro sensor. In front meanwhile you get a 32MP camera for all your selfie needs.
Elsewhere, there’s a 4,600Ah battery with 66W fast charging, support for 5G, WiFi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity. Weighing in at 175g and measuring 7.7mm thick, it is available in Moonlight, Iceland, Cherry Pink and Black colourways.
