Turning 30 is a very big deal for many people, and for ThinkPad it’s no different. The brand began life under IBM back in 1992, and have since been part of Lenovo. Despite the change in owner, ThinkPad is still going strong today and will be marking its 30th anniversary with a special edition ThinkPad X1 Carbon.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary Edition Malaysia pricing and availability

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary Edition is available for pre-order from now until the 30th of November. Priced at RM13,359, you’ll be able to get it on the official Lenovo website. There’s only 40 units up for grabs, with the first 20 buyers also eligible for a special designer laptop sleeve along with a ThinkPad X1 mouse worth RM848. LenovoPRO members meanwhile will also be able to get a free T-shirt designed by Hong Kong illustrator and artist Felix Ip while stocks last.

ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary Edition specs

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon is already a really good laptop, but with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 30th Anniversary Edition, there’s a few extra bits to make it just that more special more a special occasion. For starters, the ThinkPad logo on the bottom right corner now has splashes of red, green and blue from its old IBM days, along with a special 30th Anniversary Edition etching just below the keyboard. You also get a serial number engraved on the right hinge cap starting at 0001.

On top of that, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon also comes with a custom packaging, made of 100% compostable bamboo and sugarcane fibres, with a paper band marking the 30th anniversary wrapping it. You’ll also find a special leaflet inside marking the history of the ThinkPad marque along with some ThinkPad stickers. Perhaps the coolest part though is the included pack of RGB TrackPoint caps allowing you to customise the iconic ThinkPad TrackPoint nub in the center of the keyboard.

Hardware-wise, you’re looking at a 14-inch, 2880 x 1800p OLED display, which is a step up from the standard FHD+ IPS displays on the base model ThinkPad X1 Carbon. It has a top brightness of 400nits and a refresh rate of 90Hz too. Under the hood meanwhile is an Intel Core i7-1260P, mated to 32GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD, with graphics handled by the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics. It’ll also run Windows 11 out of the box with optional downgrade to Windows 10 available.

Elsewhere, there’s a 4-cell 57Wh battery with 65W fast charging, a FHD and IR webcam with shutter and for I/O you get two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a HDMI 2.0 port and a 3.5 audio jack. You’ll also find support for WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC. There’s a quad-speaker setup too with Dolby Atmos, along with a fingerprint sensor and a slew of security addons like a TPM chip, ePrivacy certification and Computer Vision via an extra onboard neural processing unit.
