YTL Communications have announced an enhanced Yes 5G Databack in partnership with Shopee. Launched in 2020, the Yes Databack programme allows Shopee users to earn free data with every RM50 spent on the eCommerce platform, but it was only applicable for 4G use. With the new refresh, both Yes 5G prepaid and postpaid users can now redeem the free data as an add-on or extra hotspot quota.
Since its introduction two years ago, Yes has distributed 2.46 billion GB (2.46 Exabytes) of Databack to over 13.7 million users. The telco is expecting these numbers to grow with the enhanced Yes 5G Databack.
For Yes plans with a data quota, the databack can be used as a data add-on. However, if you’re on an unlimited plan such as the Yes Infinite, you can use the databack as additional hotspot data. This is great for Yes Infinite Basic (RM58/month) users which are only allocated 10GB of hotspot data per month.
5GB of databack is given for every RM50 spent on Shopee and you can redeem the free data in the following month. This means if you spend RM200 on Shopee in October, you’ll receive 20GB databack in November. Take note that each user can only redeem a maximum of 100GB a month.
How to redeem Yes 5G Databack
To redeem the free databack, just launch the Shopee app, and then tap on the Yes 5G icon on the home screen. On the Yes 5G for all page, just scroll down to the Yes Databack section to find your Databack vouchers. Each voucher is valid for 4 months from the date of issue. Once you’ve redeemed a Databack voucher from Shopee in a Yes 5G account, all future vouchers issued for the specific Shopee ID will be tied to the IC of the specific Yes account. You can learn more about the Databack program in the official FAQ.
