For far too long, the AirPods Pro have been sitting by the sidelines. They’ve literally been Apple’s unloved middle child – while the base AirPods have seen three generations of updates and the AirPods Max are the new top dog, the AirPods Pro had been left unchanged since 2019.
This changes now – Cupertino has released a new AirPods Pro 2, coming with several improvements to sound quality and convenience. Here’s everything you need to know.
AirPods Pro 2 Malaysia price and availability
The AirPods Pro 2 are priced at the same RM1,099 as before, which means they are still RM270 more expensive than the regular AirPods 3. Pre-orders in first-wave countries such as the US, UK, Australia and Singapore kick off on Friday, September 9, with sales proper to begin two weeks later on September 23. We will update you with Malaysian availability as we get it.
AirPods Pro 2 specs and features
At first glance, the AirPods Pro 2 look very similar to the originals’ in-ear design, albeit with the addition of an extra small ear tip option to allow it to better fit more customers. All the improvements, it seems, are under the skin – and there are plenty.
Powering the Pro is a new H2 chip claimed to deliver clearer sound and richer bass through low-distortion drivers and a custom amplifier. It also enables a new Adaptive Transparency feature that uses on-device processing to reduce loud environmental noise while still letting ambient noise and voices through.
On top of this, H2’s new computational abilities and optimised microphone positioning allow the Pro’s active noise cancellation to tune out up to double the noise compared to their predecessors.
Spatial audio is another area where the AirPods Pro 2 sees big improvements. A cool new feature, Personalised Spatial Audio, allows you to use the TrueDepth camera on a Face ID-equipped iPhone to map the shape and size of your head and ears to make for a more immersive listening experience.
Users have a new way of interacting with the AirPods Pro 2 – the divots in the stems now support swiping movements for volume adjustments. There’s also an improved skin detection sensor to pause and play music more accurately, improving battery life.
Speaking of which, the AirPods Pro 2 deliver six hours of listening with ANC turned on – one and a half hours longer than before. This expands to 30 hours with the case included, six more than the originals.
The case itself is now sweat and water resistant; it can also be charged with an Apple Watch charger and finally includes a lanyard loop. A new built-in speaker plays louder tones when you’re trying to locate it using the Find My app. Last but not least, the case can be engraved with a Memoji of your choice.
