Yesterday, Honor launched the Honor 70 smartphone, Honor Pad 8 and Honor MagicBook 14. These are very different devices – a solid if rather unremarkable mid-range phone, a tablet with a giant screen and a new version of the company’s smallest premium laptop. Watch the video below to find out everything you need to know.
The Honor 70 is aimed squarely at the lucrative mid-range market, with a price to match – RM1,999. Pre-orders come with Honor Earbuds 2 Lite, a matching phone case and a 1+1-year extended warranty, altogether worth RM597.
The middle-of-the-road price is matched to middle-of-the-road specs. The Honor 70 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also debuts Sony’s new IMX800 sensor for its 54MP main camera, next to a 50MP ultra-wide and a 2MP depth sensor; a 32MP selfie camera sits at the front.
Other details include a 6.67-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a 4,800mAh battery and support for 66W fast charging. The Honor 70 ships with Android 12 and Google Mobile Services and comes in three colours – Crystal Silver, Emerald Green and Midnight Black.
Those looking for a big tablet on a budget can look to the Honor Pad 8. Despite what the name suggests, there isn’t an eight-inch display here; instead, you get a massive 12-inch LCD touchscreen with a narrow 10:6 aspect ratio and a 2000×1200 (195ppi) resolution. This is yours for RM1,399, and if you pre-order now, you’ll also get a flip case and a 1+1-year extended warranty.
In order to deliver this display size while hitting its price target, Honor has had to skimp a little on the specs. You get a Snapdragon 680 processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, along with a single 5MP camera on the front and rear. The battery is a 7,250mAh unit that accepts up to 22.5W of charging power. Like the Honor 70, the Pad 8 comes with Android 12, but only one colour – Blue Hour – is available in Malaysia.
The MagicBook 14 gets a new design for 2022 but maintains an aluminium construction, slim bezels and combined fingerprint reader and power button (now integrated in the keyboard). One key difference is that the 720p webcam is now located in the usual position above the display instead of being hidden in the keyboard.
Underneath, there’s been a few changes as well, including the addition of a 12th-generation Core i5 processor paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. You get the choice of either Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics or a dedicated Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 graphics card.
Pricing for the MagicBook 14 starts at RM4,299 with Intel Iris Xe graphics, rising up to RM5,099 with NVIDIA discrete graphics. Pre-orders include a backpack, a leather sleeve, a wireless mouse and Microsoft Office pre-installed. All these freebies are worth RM1,026.
All three devices can be pre-ordered through the Honor website and the company’s official Lazada and Shopee stores. What do you think of Honor’s new devices – are you interested in picking any of these up? Sound off in the comments below.
