More and more laptop manufacturers are slowly but surely refreshing their products to come with the current generation of processors, and the latest big name to do so this time is Lenovo. They’ve just announced availability of their new Legion 5 and Legion 5 Pro gaming laptops, which will come in both AMD and Intel flavours.
There will be two models of the Legion 5 and Legion 5 Pro respectively, with one powered by AMD Ryzen processors while those with with the ‘i’ suffix are powered by Intel Core processors. You’ll be able to get them from Lenovo Exclusive Stores as well as the Lenovo official store on Lazada and Shopee, while those with HSBC credits are also able to get them from the Lenovo Malaysia online store on a 12-month installment plan.

Furthermore, the Legion 5 series will come with 3 months of Microsoft PC Game Pass, a Lenovo Legion Active Gaming Backpack as well as a Legion cap and mug. Buyers of a Legion 5 Pro series laptop meanwhile won’t get the Legion cap and mug, as Lenovo swaps them out for a pair of Lenovo 500 Bluetooth in-ear headphones instead. This promotion will last from now till the end of August.
The Lenovo Legion 5 and Legion 5i will come with a 15.6-inch display, with options between an FHD (1080p) or a WQHD (1440p) IPS panel. Both display options will feature a 165Hz refresh rate, a 3ms response time and 100% coverage of the sRGB colour gamut. It pushes 300nits of brightness, and has support for Dolby Vision and NVIDIA G-Sync too.
Under the hood, the Legion 5 will pack up to an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H processor with up to 8GB of DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD. As for the Legion 5i, you’ll get up to an Intel Core i7-12700H, with also up to 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 512GB SSD too. As for graphics, you’ll be able to choose between an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050, RTX 3050 Ti or an RTX 3060 for the Legion 5, while the Legion 5i will come with either the RTX 3050 Ti or the RTX 3060. Both the Legion 5 and the Legion 5i will come with Windows 11 Home out of the box.
Elsewhere, there’s an 80Wh battery that can last you up to 12.4 hours of 1080p video playback, with either a 230W or 300W charger depending on the configuration using a proprietary charging port that Lenovo says will be able to power up your laptop to 80% in just half an hour. You’ll also find a pair of 2W stereo speakers with Nahimic Audio, a HD webcam with an e-shutter and an optional four-zone RGB backlit full-size keyboard.
As for I/O, there’s a USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port, two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, three USB-A 3.2 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, a HDMI port and an Ethernet port. There’s WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 support too. It weighs in at 2.4kg, measures 24.05mm thick, and both the Legion 5 and Legion 5i will be available in Cloud Grey and Storm Grey colourways.
As for the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro, it offers a very similar overall design and build to the non-Pro Legion 5 series. However, there are some marked differences, namely being a larger 16-inch, WQHD+ (1960 x 1600p) IPS display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. It features up to a 240Hz refresh rate with a 3ms response time, covers 100% of the sRGB colour gamut and comes with DisplayHDR 400 certification thanks to its 500nits of brightness.
Under the hood, the Legion 5 Pro series also features some notable upgrades. The standard Legion 5 Pro will come with up to an AMD Ryzen 7 6800H, 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB SSD, with your choice between an RTX 3060 or an RYX 3070 for your graphics card. It will come with Windows 11 Home out of the box too.
You’ll also find an 80Wh battery that also supports the aforementioned fast charging and an optional four-zone RGB keyboard with swappable key caps. It has the same I/O layout as its non-Pro counterpart, with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity too, as well as a pair of 2W stereo speakers.
