The pricing for Proton cars has gone up following the end of the sales tax exemption period. We’ve seen a price hike for the facelifted Proton Saga and the updated Proton X70 2022, and now the national carmaker has revealed its new pricing for its X50 SUV without the SST exemption.
Overall, the X50 now costs between RM7,100 and RM10,000 more than the original launch pricing. Here’s how much the Proton X50 costs on-the-road (without insurance) effective 2nd August 2022:
- Proton X50 1.5T Standard –
- Proton X50 1.5T Executive –
- Proton X50 1.5T Premium –
- Proton X50 1.5 TGDi Flagship –
The range-topping 1.5 TGDi Flagship gets a massive RM10,000 price jump to RM113,300, which is merely RM1,500 away from the all-new Honda HR-V S 1.5L NA model. It is also worth pointing out that the X50 Flagship costs more than the Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Executive AWD which is currently going for RM113,000. If you’re looking for a bigger car, the Proton X70 1.5 TGDi Premium 2WD (RM117,900) costs just RM4,600 more at RM117,900.
To recap, the Proton X50 is a B-segment SUV based on the Geely Binyue. The lower three variants – Standard, Executive and Premium, are running on a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo engine with port fuel injection setup that produces 150PS (148hp) and 226Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the Flagship gets a more powerful 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbo unit with direct fuel injection that pushes 177PS (175hp) and 255Nm of torque.
In the advanced driver assistance system department, only the TGDi flagship gets all the bells and whistles including Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop & go traffic, lane keep assist and auto park assist. You can learn more about the differences between the X50 variants in our comparison post.
Even with the price increase, the Proton X50 still remains one of the best value-for-money compact SUVs, especially with that powerful 1.5-litre TGDi engine. It’s just a pity that it still does not offer autonomous emergency braking as standard across the range while the infotainment system does not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
