Vivo has a new midrange smartphone available in Malaysia, the Vivo Y35. According to Vivo, it’s designed to offer a chic yet durable design for a fun and easy user experience.
The Vivo Y35 is now available for pre-order until the 16th of August from the Vivo eStore as well as their official store on Shopee and Lazada. Priced at RM1,099, if you do pre-order it you’ll also be able to snag free gifts worth up to RM547, which include a year of extended warranty, a year of screen crack protection, a Vivo sports bag as well as brand vouchers too. Furthermore, pre-orders on Shopee in particular will also get a free Aukey headset too.
The Vivo Y35’s body measure 8.28mm thick and is made out of 2.5D plastic, housing a 6.58-inch, FHD+ LCD display that is capable of a 90Hz refresh rate with a maximum brightness of 550nits. While there’s no mention of a Gorilla Glass-style layer over it for scratch resistance, the Y35 does at least have IP54 dust and water resistance.
Under the hood, the Vivo Y35 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 system-on-chip, mated to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also has a trick up its sleeve for more memory—Extended RAM 3.0. Essentially just virtual RAM, it lets you use up to 8GB of storage as system memory, letting you multitask and keep more things on in the background. You’ll also be able to expand storage via a microSD card slot. The Y35 comes with Funtouch OS 12 out of the box based on Android 12.
As for the cameras, you’ll find a triple rear camera on the Vivo Y35, with a main 50MP, f/1.8 shooter flanked by a pair of 2MP, f/2.4 macro and depth sensors. On the front of the device meanwhile is a 16MP, f/2.0 camera for your selfie needs.
Other features of note include a 5,000mAh battery that they say will last you for over 14 hours of movie streaming, which can be charged with 44W FlashCharge wired fast charging that offers a 70% charge in just 34 minutes. While there’s no mention of stereo speakers, Vivo is claiming that the Y35 has ‘immersive Hi-Res’ sound thanks to an updated audio booster. The Y35 also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 5 connectivity, and will come in Dawn Gold or Agate Black colourways.
The Vivo Y35 seems most likely to square up against the likes of the Redmi Note 11 in particular, which launched earlier this year with somewhat similar specs. It too packs a Snapdragon 680, though mated to just up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There’s also a 50MP main camera on the Redmi Note 11 too, flanked by an 8MP ultrawide angle lens and dual 2MP cameras for depth and macro. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging. The key advantage the Redmi Note 11 has though is that it’s much cheaper, starting at just RM749.
