I’m a big fan of fighting games like Super Smash Bros., and an aspect I really liked about those games is how I was able to fight with different characters from different games. Now, it seems like Warner Bros. is trying to get some of that Smash Bros.-related success with the new name, Multiversus.
Similar to how Smash Bros. is a game where you can fight Nintendo game characters with each other, Multiversus is a fighting game featuring a cast of characters from Warner Bros. Here is the full list of characters in the game:
- Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Harley Quinn (DC)
- Shaggy and Velma (Scooby-Doo)
- Bugs Bunny and Tasmanian Devil a.k.a. Taz (Looney Tunes)
- Arya Stark (Game of Thrones)
- Jake the Dog and Finn the Human (Adventure Time)
- Steven Universe and Garnet (Steven Universe)
- Tom & Jerry (Tom and Jerry)
- Iron Giant (The Iron Giant)
- Reindog, a new creature created for Multiversus
MultiVersus is a free-to-play title, and it will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in early access. But if you live “out of region”, platforms like Steam might not have the beta available for you to download.
The developers currently have no end-date for the open beta. However, the team promised it will continue to update the game with new characters, maps, and seasonal content in the following months. In addition to the characters stated above, developers announced that LeBron James from Space Jam: A New Legacy and Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith from Rick and Morty would join the roster of fighters.
The open beta will launch with a 2v2 team-based co-op mode, 1v1 matches, 4-player free-for-all, 1-4 player local matches, co-op vs. A.I. matches, custom online lobbies, and with practice modes. It’s also able to support cross-play across all platforms. Multiversus could also follow Smash Bros.’s footsteps in that they could introduce competitive aspects to it–but its a little too early to tell whether the game would do as well.
