Oppo Pad Air Malaysia: Everything you need to know

Oppo has just held their autumn launch event in Malaysia, where we saw them reveal not only the Reno 8 series of smartphones, but also a new tablet to our shores, the Oppo Pad Air. It’s the latest midrange tablet to join a plethora of options available for Malaysians to pick from.

Oppo Pad Air Malaysia pricing and availability

The Oppo Pad Air will come in two configurations, and pre-orders will begin today until the 29th of July. Early birds will also be able to redeem free gifts worth up to RM259, such as a 6-month premium subscription to Viu, a 50% off voucher for the Logitech K380 keyboard, as well as an Oppo Pad Air case worth RM129 (only for the higher spec configuration). Here’s how much it’ll go for:

  • Oppo Pad Air, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage – RM1,099
  • Oppo Pad Air, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage – RM1,299

You’ll be able to purchase them from the official Oppo store on Shopee and Lazada. Furthermore, on the 30th of July, the 64GB version of the Oppo Pad Air will come with a RM200 discount too, going for just RM899.

Oppo Pad Air specs

The Oppo Pad Air will come with a 10.36-inch LCD display pushing a 2000 x 1200p display, and features what Oppo are calling a ‘smart backlight’ with 2,048 dimming zones. Its display has an 83.5% screen-to-body ratio too, though there won’t be any fancy high refresh rates here. It has a max brightness of 360nits, and covers 71% of the NTSC colour gamut.

Under the hood, you’ll find a reasonably powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 system-on-chip, a solid and popular midrange popular. That gets mated to 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, with support for external storage via microSD too. It runs ColosOS 12.1 out of the box, with a suite of multitasking tools included with the tablet.

Elsewhere, you’ll find a single 8MP, f/2.0 rear camera that’s capable of up to 1080p video recording at 30fps, while the front of the tablet has a 5MP, f/2.2 camera for your selfie and video conferencing needs. Powering it all is a 7,100mAh battery that Oppo claims will last you up to 12 hours while watching video, with 18W fast charging.

There’s unfortunately no mobile network connectivity with the Oppo Pad Air though, so you’re limited to just Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 5 connectivity. You also won’t find a 3.5mm audio jack, but there is a four speaker setup with Dolby Atmos. The tablet weighs 440g and measures 6.94mm thick, and has a ‘3D textured’ design on the back.

Overall, at RM1,099, it will be going up right against the likes of the Realme Pad, which starts at RM999 for one with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. That tablet comes with a similarly sized 10.4-inch, 2000 x 1200p LCD display and a MediaTek Helio G80 processor under the hood, and has the additional perk of LTE connectivity. They share similar specs elsewhere too, such as a 7,100mAh battery, an 8MP camera and 18W fast charging.

Alternatively, if you were considering the higher specced Oppo Pad Air at RM1,299, for RM100 extra you could also consider the Xiaomi Pad 5, which retails for RM1,399 and features a better processor in the form of a Snapdragon 870, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a better 11-inch, QHD+ LCD display that pushes a 120Hz refresh rate.
