MySejahtera 2.0: Malaysia’s COVID-19 contact tracing app is becoming a health record app

The Ministry of Health Malaysia has recently released MySejahtera 2.0, the latest version which bring several new features. Since Malaysia has started its transition to Endemic Phase, the active usage of MySejahtera has dropped significantly as QR-code check-ins for COVID-19 contact tracing were no longer required effective 1st May.

According to MOH’s statement, MySejahtera has been improved to be a public health platform. The two new features include displaying health screening and immunisation records for infants born after 1st July 2022. The immunisation record feature is aimed at providing convenience as it can be displayed digitally rather than relying on manual record books. It also hopes that MySejahtera can help to encourage Malaysians to adopt a healthier lifestyle by providing them with tools to monitor their health trends easily.

On the new home screen, you’ll notice that there’s no longer COVID-19 status, COVID-19 self-report or COVID-19 vaccination on the top panel. Instead, you’ll get 5 shortcuts to Traveller, Infectious Disease Tracker, Helpdesk, Manage Dependents, and Locate Health Facilities. If you need to check your COVID-19 vaccine appointment or to declare your COVID-19 self-test results, you’ll have to tap on “more”.

Since COVID-19 stats isn’t the main focus anymore, the second tab at the bottom of the screen is now used to display your health records. By default, this section is blank and you’ll have to enter your height, weight and blood type. This is somewhat similar to the Health or Fitness apps that you get preloaded on Apple and Samsung smartphones.

Other functions on the page such as Health Report and Lab Test Report. This section will be utilised if you undergo screening under the National health screening initiative at government health clinics.

Meanwhile, the Vaccination section doesn’t seem to be ready for adults and it is shown as “Coming soon”. According to MOH, the immunisation records will be shown after a baby is given a Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) injection at health facilities under the National Immunisation Programme for children born after 1st July 2022. Other vaccinations that will be shown include Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus Influenza, Diphtera (D), Tetanus (T) and Acellular Pertussia (AP) (DTAP), Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and COVID-19. Parents are still allowed to use the immunisation record book to keep their vaccination records.

The other sections including the COVID-19 status page remain unchanged. It still shows your current COVID-19 risk and vaccination status. The QR check-in as well as MySJ Bluetooth contact tracing feature is still retained. Also unchanged is the profile page which will show your current health status, travellers card, recent COVID-19 test result and your digital COVID-19 vaccine certificate.

Based on the last MOH’s MySejahtera data shared on GitHub pm 11th June, there were less than 100,000 daily check-ins for MySejahtera. In this current version, there’s still no option for users to register as an organ donor.

Malaysia has been seeing a surge of new COVID-19 cases lately with over 5,000 cases reported daily on 15th and 16th July. The MOH is encouraging senior citizens and individuals with comorbidity to get their 2nd booster to increase their protection levels. According to the COVIDNow dashboard, 68.5% of adults have received a single booster and less than 1% have gotten their second booster jab. Eligible individuals are urged to book their COVID-19 booster appointment via the COVID-19 Vaccine page via MySejahtera.
