GoCar launches GoCar Pro, a vehicle sharing and subscription hybrid starting at RM129/day

The car sharing platform GoCar Malaysia has launched GoCar Pro, which they are calling a ‘hybrid between sharing and subscription’. Essentially, you’ll be able to subscribe to a car with a shorter lead time. It’s being piloted in just Johor Bahru for now, and any registered GoCar user who needs a car will be able to use it, with rates for GoCar Pro ranging between RM129 and RM169 per day.

If you do want to use GoCar Pro, you’ll be able to pick from a Proton Persona, Perodua Axia and a Nissan Almera. GoCar says that with GoCar Pro, any car that is booked will be ensured to be clean and in good condition, with a dedicated GoCar team to check the car after each use. Booking a car under GoCar Pro is similar to booking any other regular GoCar vehicle, but has some minor differences. For instance, GoCar Pro is currently available for round trips only. Furthermore, a minimum booking of three days is required, with a maximum of 30 days available.

On top of that, bookings will need to be made a day in advance to allow GoCar to get your vehicle ready. GoCar Pro customers will also be provided with a physical key which can be collected from the GoCar Hub in Johor Jaya during operating hours, though you can still lock and unlock the vehicle using your GoCar app. You’ll also need to provide a security deposit of RM500 which will be refunded within seven to 14 days upon return of the car. There’s a ‘drive now, pay later’ option too, where you can use GrabPay to spread your payment fees across four installments with zero interest.

For those of you down south who want to try out GoCar Pro, here’s how to do it. First off, you’ll of course need a membership with GoCar, and any Malaysian aged 18 and older with a valid driving license as well as non-Malaysians with valid international driving licenses can sign up. You’ll then need to download the GoCar app and launch it, and select Sharing followed by Round Trip. Enter your preferred date and time and tap on the pin with the Pro option on the map.

You can then choose your preferred vehicle and add on any other options you want. For instance, you can get the Premium Flex package for RM5, which gives you a 30 minute extension on car returns. Then, enter in the promo code ‘GOCARPRO’ prior to checking out and complete the payment process. You will then be able to collect the key to your car at the GoCar Johor Jaya branch.
