Apple’s latest MacBook Air powered by the new M2 chip will be available for purchase in Malaysia starting tomorrow, 8th July at 8pm. It features a larger 13.6″ Liquid Retina Display with a notch and it’s available in 4 colours.

The new MacBook Air is priced from RM5,499 for the 8-core GPU model with 8GB Unified Memory and 256GB of SSD storage. The 10-core GPU variant costs RM400 extra and you can upgrade the RAM to 16GB for RM800 extra or up to 24GB for RM1,600. In terms of storage, you can upgrade the SSD all the way up to 2TB for an extra RM3,200.

If you go with the 10-core GPU, 24GB Unified Memory and 2TB storage options, a fully-spec’ed MacBook Air costs RM10,699. In terms of colours, you can get it in either Midnight, Starlight, Space Grey and Silver.

Take note that if you choose the M2 chip with a 10-core GPU, you’ll have the option to choose from a 35W dual USB-C Power adapter or a 67W USB-C Power. The dual-USB-C version allows you to charge your MacBook Air and another device simultaneously, while the 67W single USB-C power adapter allows you to fast charge the MacBook Air with 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Whichever option you pick, Apple is including a 2-metre USB-C to MagSafe cable with the MacBook Air. If you’re interested, you can place your order online via Apple’s online store.

To recap on the specs, the all-new MacBook Air for 2022 gets a more squared design with a 13.6″ notched display that pushes a resolution of 2560×1664 pixels. Compared to the previous M1-powered MacBook Air, the screen is brighter at 500 nits and it supports full coverage of the P3 colour gamut as well as True Tone.
The laptop comes with Magic Keyboard with Touch ID as well as a large Force Touch trackpad as standard. The overall MacBook Air weighs just 1.24kg and it is 1.13cm thin.

Similar to the latest MacBook Pro 14 and 16, the new MacBook Air features a MagSafe port and it also comes with two Thunderbolt ports on the left. On the right, it still gets a single 3.5mm headphone jack but there’s no extra card reader or HDMI port.
Another major upgrade is its 1080p FaceTime HD camera and the MacBook Air now boasts a four-speaker sound system with support for Apple’s Spatial Audio. On a single charge, the fanless MacBook Air is rated to last up to 18 hours of battery life.
It is worth highlighting that the new M2 MacBook Air 8-core GPU model is merely RM200 cheaper than the M2 MacBook Pro 13 with a 10-core GPU. If you’re wondering which new MacBook to get, you can check out our comparison between the two models.
