Maxis has just updated its Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited offering with its “all-new” Unlimited Monthly Passes. The new options cost RM5 more but now come with unlimited hotspot and uncapped high-speed data daily for 12 hours.
According to the current Hotlink website, the monthly unlimited pass now starts from RM40/month instead of the previous RM35/month. As usual, you still get “unlimited” internet with speeds capped at 3Mbps, unlimited calls and free access to Viu Premium. As listed above, the plan now comes with uncapped speeds daily from 2am to 2pm and you also get unlimited hotspot by default.
Meanwhile, the “unlimited” 6Mbps option now costs RM50/month instead of RM45/month and the pass also gets uncapped speeds daily from 2am to 2pm along with free hotspot. Overall, this seems to be a nice upgrade for users who has activated the monthly RM5 add-on for unlimited hotspot.
If you move up a notch, Hotlink’s higher “Unlimited” 18Mbps option remains unchanged at RM60/month and the plan offers the same 12-hour uncapped high-speed data and unlimited hotspot at no extra cost. There’s also the Sooka VIP+Sports video streaming bundle that’s going for RM85/month. It offers the same perks as the “Unlimited” 18Mbps plan but you’re getting the Sooka VIP+Sport access (worth RM41.90/month). That translates to a saving of RM16.90/month as you’re effectively paying RM25 to enjoy the video streaming service.
As usual, Hotlink Prepaid Unlimited still comes with the same dreaded Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Once you’ve hit your monthly FUP quota of 50GB, you can still get connected but your download speeds will be throttled to 512kbps. According to Hotlink, these speeds still allow fairly good user experience for standard definition video streaming, social media apps and web browsing. For users on short-term passes, the FUP is 5GB for daily and 15GB for weekly passes.
If you prefer to stay on your existing RM35/month or RM45/month passes without hotspot, the FAQ states that the old passes are still available. We can confirm that it is still available on the Hotlink app. It is interesting to note that the Unlimited Hotspot data feature for the new passes is listed as a “Limited time offer” on the FAQ.
