This post is brought to you by HONOR.
HONOR started as a sub-division of one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in China. But now, they have become an independent company and it didn’t take them long before they introduced a new flagship offering for the Malaysian market.
The Magic4 Pro comes with features recognisable to fans of HONOR while at the same delivering new and advanced features to stand apart from the rest of the competition. But more importantly, it supports Google Mobile Services (GMS) which many people will be pleased to know.
Here are some of the other features you can expect from the HONOR Magic4 Pro.
Premium build matching its premium status
From the moment you pick up the HONOR Magic4 Pro, you can immediately feel the premium materials used in the construction. Covering the front screen and rear panel is glass while the frame is made from aluminium. When holding the phone, the curved edges of the metal frame makes it comfortable in your hands.
Protecting your brand new Magic4 Pro is an IP68 water and dust resistant rating. So, if your phone drops in a sink full of water or falls behind a dusty sofa, your Magic4 Pro will come out unharmed.
Around the back, The Eye of Muse is displayed prominently and is bigger compared to previous models. That’s because the ring on the Magic4 Pro is larger to accommodate an array of upgraded camera sensors.
HONOR brings its latest Ultra Fusion Photography to the ring
Besides providing brand identity for the HONOR Magic series, The Eye of Muse houses a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 64MP periscope telephoto camera that can support up to 100x hybrid zoom. Assisting these large camera sensors are a flicker sensor and an 8×8 dTOF sensor that provides fast autofocus speed.
To provide greater image clarity and sharpness, the HONOR Magic4 Pro uses Ultra Fusion Photography which allows the camera system to use two lenses at the same time to take photos of a specific focal length. The Magic4 Pro uses its 122° ultra-wide-angle to take more of the scene while the wide-angle camera is responsible for the data at the centre of the image.
Smart AI algorithms then stitch the images together to create a single clear and detailed photo.
A rare feature on a sub RM4,000 smartphone, the 64MP periscope lens enables 100x hybrid zoom, allowing you to get up and close with a distant subject.
With a feature-rich camera system, the HONOR Magic4 Pro has little trouble capturing great photos during the night.
Another trick the Magic4 Pro has up its sleeves is having independent processing channels for video and photo. This allows the phone to record video using one camera module while at the same time allowing you to take photos using another camera module. Typically, in other smartphones, when you take a picture while recording a video, the phone only takes a screenshot of the frame, thus holding less data.
Moving display tech, forward
As you would come to expect from a flagship tier smartphone, the HONOR Magic4 Pro comes with a high resolution, 6.81-inch, quad curved LTPO OLED display and a pixel density of 460ppi. Peak brightness is rated 1000nits, allowing for HDR10+ support. The display also supports an adaptive refresh between 1 to 120Hz and is able to boost framerates of contents to 120Hz using Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation (MEMC) technology.
That said, the most impressive feature of Magic4 Pro’s display is its high-frequency 1920Hz PWM dimming, which is a first for an LTPO display. What this essentially does is reduce flicker caused by severe stroboscopic flicker due to low-frequency dimming on a typical smartphone. These flickers can cause the iris in the human eye to work harder, resulting in headaches and strained eyes.
Thanks to the high frequency dimming on the Magic4 Pro, you will have a better experience when viewing your content at lower brightness.
Your phone call is only yours to hear
Have you ever sat next to someone in public and could hear the person they are talking to on the phone? That’s because the sound is being resonated in every direction. To help minimise sound leakage, the HONOR Magic4 Pro comes with an AI Privacy Call feature. At 60% or lower volume, a combination of software and hardware elements work together to direct the audio to just your ears, while minimising sound travelling everywhere else.
With the Magic4 Pro, you don’t have to worry about your private conversation being heard by the people around you. On the subject of privacy, this flagship smartphone also features a dual TEE security OS as well as an independent security chipset to hold your biometric information, preventing it from being obtained by third-party apps.
100W charging, be it wired or wireless
30 minutes is all it takes to recharge the 4,600mAh battery from almost dead in the HONOR Magic4 Pro. Using the included charger in the box, the Magic4 Pro can charge at a whopping 100W.
Wireless charging is normally slower compared to wired charging. However, the Magic4 Pro is capable of the same 100W for wireless charging using the optional wireless charger with the 135W charger.
Thanks to the ultrafast charging speed, you don’t need to wait long before your Magic4 Pro is back in your hands again.
Rounding things off, the HONOR Magic4 Pro is powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
The HONOR Magic4 Pro does pack all the features you want to see in a flagship smartphone. However, it can provide this flagship experience at a lower price compared to many of its competitors.
