Xiaomi finally launches the RedmiBook 15 in Malaysia, available from RM1,899

Xiaomi’s range of laptops have been somewhat popular among Malaysians, even though they were never officially available here. This meant that they had to be purchased via online resellers rather than Xiaomi themselves. This is set to change though, as Xiaomi Malaysia has today announced the official release of the RedmiBook 15 series on our shores.

RedmiBook 15 Malaysia pricing and availability

The RedmiBook 15 Malaysia will be available in Malaysia from 6 June onwards, coming in two different variations:

  • RedmiBook 15, Core i3-1115G4, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD – RM2,399
  • RedmiBook 15, Core i5-11300H, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD – RM2,799

They’ll be available for purchase from the official Xiaomi stores on Lazada and Shopee, as well as their physical Xiaomi stores nationwide. If you purchase them from between the 6th of June till the 30th of June, you’ll also be able to get them at a lower price, with purchases at physical Xiaomi stores also coming with a free Mi Casual backpack worth RM69.

Here’s how much they’ll cost during the promotional period:

  • RedmiBook 15, Core i3-1115G4, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD – RM1,899
  • RedmiBook 15, Core i5-11300H, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD – RM2,499

RedmiBook 15 specs

The RedmiBook 15 comes with a 15.6-inch, FHD IPS display with an anti-glare display, which Xiaomi says supports DC Dimming to keep it flicker free at low brightness levels. The laptop’s chassis itself meanwhile is a metal body that weighs 1.8kg heavy and 19.9mm thin. There’s just one colour option available here, which is Charcoal Gray.

Under the hood, you’ll find the aforementioned 11th Gen Intel Core processors—the Intel Core i3-1115G4 and Intel Core i5-11300H. It’s a little strange to see the same series feature two processors from different processor ranges though; the Core i3 belongs to the lower powered U-series, while the Core i5 chip here comes from the more performant H35 series. Nevertheless, both come with 8GB of DDR4 RAM, with the base model having 256GB of SSD storage and Intel UHD graphics while the Core i5 model has 512GB of SSD storage and Intel Iris Xe graphics.

Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 46Whr battery that is rated for up to 10 hours of battery life. Xiaomi also says the bundled charger ought to be able to get you 50% of battery in just 33 minutes. However, the charging port here isn’t USB-C unfortunately. In fact, there’s no USB-C port on the RedmiBook 15 at all. Instead, you’re limited to a USB 2.0 port, two USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI 1.4 port, an Ethernet port, a microSD card reader, a Kensington lock slot and a 3.5mm audio jack.

On top of that, the RedmiBook also supports Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 5 support. The RedmiBook1 5 will come with Windows 11 out of the box too. Other features of note include a large touchpad, a 720p webcam above the display as well as 2W stereo speaker with DTS tuning.

Overall, the RedmiBook 15 looks a little out of place in the local laptop scene right now. It’s Core i5 model is clearly the more capable of the two, though for its promotional price the Core i3 model could be tempting too. It’ll likely go up against the likes of the Honor MagicBook X15, MagicBook 14 and Huawei MateBook D15 in this price segment. However, it lacks a number of features such as USB-C ports and charging as well as WiFi 6 connectivity.
