If you’ve redeemed your RM150 ePemula credit via Touch ‘n Go eWallet, take note that the credit can’t be utilised for tolls and parking. The reminder was issued by PLUS and they urge all RFID users to top up their TNG eWallet to maintain sufficient balance for a hassle-free experience.
As announced by the Finance Ministry, the RM150 ePemula eWallet credit initiative is aimed at promoting cashless transactions at physical stores. This means you can’t use it for online or in-app payments, and you’re meant to spend the RM150 credit in stores. The ePemula T&C for TNG eWallet has also stated that the government incentives are restricted from being used on certain transactions which include “parking and/or toll fees”.
Besides RFID toll payment, this also means you can’t use the ePemula credit for PayDirect payments at supported highways and car parks. PayDirect is a feature that allows you to deduct credit from your eWallet when you tap your linked physical TNG card.
The ePemula initiative is still running and it is open to Malaysian youths aged 18-20 years old or full-time students studying in registered institutions of higher learning. Redemptions are available until 1st June 2022, and the credit must be utilised by 10th June 2022.
If you’re eligible and haven’t redeemed yet, you can do so via BigPay, Grab, Shopee and TNG eWallet. To stretch your ringgit further, each platform is also providing extra value including vouchers, coins, cashback and other benefits.
Take note that Grab doesn’t offer the RM150 credit but instead provides you with vouchers that are split in multiple denominations. The move to give vouchers contradicts the Ministry of Finance’s announcement to offer credit to eligible youths.
If you’re driving back to the city after your Raya holiday, the next free toll period is from 12:01am (Saturday) 7th May to 11:59pm (Sunday) 8th May. According to PLUS, the toll waiver is calculated upon exiting the highway. This means you can enter the highway earlier but just make sure to exit between 12:01am on Saturday and 11:59pm on Sunday to enjoy the free toll.
