Hey Pokemon fans, there’s a Pokemon Edition Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 coming soon

Pokemon has gone a long way from its original 1996 video game, becoming what is now one of the biggest franchises ever, with anime series, movie adaptations and more. Even in the office, a number of us are big fans of Pokemon. Which also makes us a little sad, as Samsung are launching a special Pokemon Edition of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 soon but only for South Korea.

According to its event page, the launch will be happening this Sunday, 24 April and interested Pokemon or Samsung fans can subscribe for a notification when the launch begins on the event page. The picture included is likely just a render, but does give a hint of what to expect. There’s the Galaxy Z Flip 3 itself of course, there’s also a Pokemon pouch, a Pikachu Clear Cover case, a Pikachu tail keychain, a Pokeball popsocket and a bunch of what looks like Pokemon stickers. Even the box the Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes in is coloured like a Pokeball.

It also makes a lot of sense for Samsung to team up with Pokemon, as the franchise is going through a renaissance of sorts right now in South Korea. Plenty of young Koreans are seemingly going through a wave of nostalgia for Pokemon, hunting down Pokemon stickers that come with these little packets of bread, with each packet costing USD1.20 (~RM5.14). There’s a total of 159 unique Pokemon stickers and complete sets of these stickers are going for over USD700 online, with Koreans are lining up all over supermarkets in Korea to get their hands on these treats for the stickers. Even Namjoon from BTS posted about it recently on his Instagram, leading to even more hype over Pokemon in Korea.

And speaking of BTS, this is also far from the first time Samsung has teamed up with others to launch a special edition version of their flagship smartphones. The Korean giant has long been in a partnership with BTS for instance, having launched a special BTS Edition version of their Galaxy S20+ few years back, and even inviting them to help launch the Galaxy S22 series earlier this year. Then there was also the long running Olympic Edition of their flagship smartphones every time the Olympic Games rolls around.
