Porsche Design’s new 4K Mini LED monitor will cost you over RM7,000

Porsche may be better known for their cars, but they’ve also long had the Porsche Design subsidiary that has been making high end accessories since 1972 now. They dabble in electronics and gadgets every now and then too, such as the Porsche Design Acer Book RS and the Porsche Design Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro. The latest of such products from the German company is the Porsche Design AOC Agon Pro PD32M.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen Porsche Design partner up with Taiwanese manufacturer AOC, having previously done monitors together before, but this latest one is like nothing before. It’s a 32-inch, 4K Mini LED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. It’s also capable of a peak brightness of 1600nits, covers 97% of the DCI-P3 colour space while also being Display HDR1400 certified. Porsche Design says the monitor’s frameless, streamlined design takes inspiration from its sports cars, while the adjustable aluminum stand is styled like Porsche steering wheels.

Other features of note on the Agon Pro PD32M includes two 8-watt DTS Sound-certified speakers, built-in headset holders and the ability to pivot the display into portrait mode if you wish. The rear of the monitor also has some pretty RGB lighting all around to really make it fit in a wealthy gamer’s hideout. As for I/O, it has two HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort jack, four USB-A 3.2 ports, a USB-C port as well as a headphones jack. The monitor won’t be light though, weighing in at 11 and a half kilograms.

Such extravagant specs—along with the ‘Porsche Design’ branding—also means that you can expect it to have an extravagant price tag. The Porsche Design AOC Agon Pro PD32M will retail for a cool USD1,799 (~RM7,619.66). It’s now open for pre-order on the Porsche Design website, with the monitor becoming fully available from the 15th of June onwards.

Of course, when you look at what Porsche Design and AOC are offering as a whole with this monitor, that USD1,799 isn’t actually that bad. Mini LED monitors are still considered a luxury of sorts in the monitor scene, especially high refresh rate ones. Samsung’s Odyssey G9 NEO for example retails for RM9,499, though that one is a much different beast altogether, with a 49-inch, 5120 x 1440p ultrawide Quantum Mini LED panel pushing a 240Hz refresh rate. Then there’s also the ultra premium Dell UltraSharp UP3221Q, a 32-inch, 4K Mini LED monitor meant for professionals that has a regular retail price of RM38,259, just a grand short of what the full spec Proton Saga retails for.
