Poco F4 GT set to debut on 26 April, appears to be a rehashed Redmi K50 Gaming

It’s been over a year now since we saw the Poco F3 launch, and so it’s perhaps time to see a new entry to the Poco F series. We likely won’t have to wait very long though, as several media outlets have reported getting an invite to a Poco F4 GT launch event taking place online on the 26th of April, 8pm local time. Poco are expected to also launch several new IoT products though there’s no word just yet on what these will be.

The Poco F4 GT is believed to be a rebranded version of the Redmi K50 Gaming that recently debuted in China. The Redmi K50 Gaming has a 6.67-inch, FHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate while under the hood there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip mated to up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. It also has a triple rear camera setup with a 64MP main shooter, an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP macro lens too, while the front of the device has a 20MP selfie camera.

As a gaming smartphone, it has physical shoulder buttons too, dubbed the Magnetomotive Shoulder Keys 2.0. There’s also a 4,700mAh battery keeping the lights on with a quad-speaker setup too. The Redmi K50 Gaming starts at CNY3,299 (~RM2,192.95) in China, while a limited edition Mercedes-AMD Petronas F1 Team Edition was also available for CNY4,199 (~RM2,790.79).

For what it’s worth, we reached out to Poco Malaysia who have said that they have not officially confirmed anything just yet regarding the Poco F4 GT. This could mean that local availability will be coming a short while later after the global launch or maybe even not at all. The Poco F3 GT for instance was launched only in India last year, and itself was a rehashed Redmi K40 Gaming Edition that dropped in China only before that. It had a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 under the hood coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, along with gamer-focused features such as RGB lighting and pop-up trigger switches.

There’s also the upcoming Poco F4 of course, which has already been leaked prior to this. The Poco F4 so far doesn’t seem like much of an upgrade over the current Poco F3, as it will likely be a rebadge of the Redmi K40S that launched in China. It is expected to still use the Snapdragon 870 processor already in the Poco F3 and Redmi K40S, with up to 12GBB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The display of the Redmi K40S meanwhile is a 6.67-inch, FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. A Poco F4 Pro though may be on the cards too, as Singaporean regulators IMDA have already approved a device believed to be the Poco F4 Pro.

The Redmi K40S.

As for the time being, we will just have to wait to see what Poco has to unveil on the 26th of April. If you’d rather not wait and see, the Poco F3 is still available for purchase, with a solid spec sheet offering a near-flagship experience at a fairly low price. We’ve recently seen it go for as low as RM999, though it normally retails for RM1,399.
