One of the biggest reasons people pay a premium for the best smartphones from an industry leader like Samsung is because they want all the premium features. But that way of thinking is going to be a little out of date because Samsung’s brand new mid-range smartphone lineup has practically all the flagship features you’d want, but at about half the price.
Meet the Samsung Galaxy A series: Galaxy A33 5G, Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A73 5G
The great divide between a premium flagship smartphone and an affordable smartphone has always been water resistance. And we’re not talking about IP53 splash resistance because let’s be real, that thing is not going to survive water.
Now, though, Samsung has brought IP67 dust and water resistance to their entire line of 2022 Galaxy A smartphones. Yup, even on the RM1,499 Samsung Galaxy A33 5G, you’ll be getting a smartphone that’s rated to survive up to 30 minutes submerged in fresh water down to 1 metre in depth.
Another aspect that affordable mid-range smartphones tend to sacrifice on is their display. On Samsung’s new Galaxy A 2022 lineup, you’re getting some of the best screens the company has to offer.
Crisp Full HD+ Super AMOLED displays across the board. If you’ve never used an AMOLED panel before, there’s really nothing that can reproduce the rich vibrant colours, amazing contrast and deep blacks of an AMOLED screen.
On top of that, all three Galaxy A smartphones also feature fast refresh rates on their screens. The Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A73 5G gets 120Hz refresh rate displays while the Galaxy A33 5G features a 90Hz refresh rate on its panel.
This is probably one of the biggest innovations on a modern smartphone’s display in a long time. With a fast refresh rate screen, everything just looks buttery smooth. Not just games, but simply swiping around the screen or scrolling down a web page gives you a whole nother experience that you simply have to try for yourself to believe.
Large batteries have become a necessity in all smartphones, that’s why the 2022 Galaxy A series features big 5,000 mAh batteries across the board. This should give you all-day battery life. But, on top of that, Samsung has also included 25W fast wired charging support across the board with these new smartphones.
That’s the same speed of charging as their flagship smartphone!
Anyone can put a bunch of performance parts in a smartphone body and call it a flagship smartphone. But that won’t necessarily give you a “premium flagship experience”. That requires a lot more commitment to build a healthy ecosystem of features around the smartphone.
For Samsung, this is called the Galaxy Experience, and the new 2022 Galaxy A smartphones all have access to this. With the Galaxy Experience, you get features like Link to Windows where you can instantly connect your phone to your Windows PC and answer calls, access your phone from your laptop and seamlessly transfer pictures and documents.
You also get access to Samsung exclusive ecosystem features like Samsung Knox, Secure Folder and fan-favourite Samsung Pay as well.
Finally, we have longevity. Being forced to change your smartphone because you’ve stopped receiving updates, or are on a software version that’s out of date is not a good experience. That’s why Samsung has committed to providing their customers with some of the longest software support in the industry.
And this extends to the new Galaxy A series of smartphones too. With the new phones, you’ll be guaranteed four Android updates and 5 years of software support. This way, you get to decide when you upgrade your smartphone.
Don’t just look at the on-paper specifications if you’re going for a proper flagship smartphone experience. You should also consider the ecosystem and additional features provided by the smartphone. It’s easy to put the best processor in a phone, but it’s much harder and probably more valuable to build a well-rounded experience.
