Annuar Musa reveals he got COVID-19 twice

Communications and Multimedia Minister (aka MenKOMM) Tan Sri Annuar Musa revealed he has contracted COVID-19 twice and had recently recovered from a second infection. He said this during an interview on Astro Meletop yesterday evening.

According to the Minister, he got his first COVID-19 infection during the earlier Delta wave and was admitted to Hospital Sungai Buloh. He was picked up from home by staff covered in PPE and had stayed there for eight days with no visitors allowed.

He said contracted COVID-19 again two weeks ago but had mild symptoms. Annuar Musa added he’s likely to be classified as category one or two as he felt ok except for flu, headache, and a bit of muscle ache.

On 11th March 2022, the Minister posted a cryptic message “Sama..hu hu..” (Same… hu hu) when he retweeted a post about the effects of long COVID. Coincidently, that was the day when his Ministry and the Ministry of Finance were supposed to announce a decision on Malaysia’s 5G approach, which was later postponed to 16th March. In case you missed it, the government had decided to continue the 5G rollout with Digital Nasional Berhad as a single wholesale network.

In the past month, Malaysia has experienced a surge in new COVID-19 infections averaging more than 20,000 cases per day. As Malaysia begins its transition to the endemic phase on 1st April, the national healthcare utilisation including ICU beds remains at moderate levels. Over 99% of daily new COVID-19 cases are classified as category 1 or 2 where individuals had mild or no symptoms.

Before international borders reopen and the start of the holy month of Ramadhan, the Ministry of Health is urging all remaining adults to get their booster shot to maintain high levels of protection against COVID-19. Approximately 2.9 million unboosted adults will lose their fully vaccinated status by 1st April if they do not get their boosters. This includes over 800,000 senior citizens as well as 2.1 million Sinovac recipients.
