As Malaysia aims to start its “transition to endemic” phase on 1st April 2022, the Ministry of Health is urging everyone to get their boosters as soon as possible to ensure high levels of protection against COVID-19. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted that there are 34.4% of adults or approximately 7.5 million individuals have not gotten their COVID-19 booster shot.

As announced earlier, all fully vaccinated Senior Citizens (60 years old and above, regardless of vaccine brand) and all fully vaccinated adults (18 years old and above) with Sinovac vaccines, must get their COVID-19 vaccine booster shot by 31st March in order to retain their fully vaccinated status. If they are not boosted, their MySejahtera status will change to not fully vaccinated on 1st April. As a result, they will lose access to certain premises and activities including dine-in at restaurants.

Khairy shared this morning there are 835,000 senior citizens and 2.1 million Sinovac recipients, who have not received their COVID-19 booster shot. While the utilisation of healthcare facilities remains at moderate levels, new COVID-19 deaths are showing an upward trend with senior citizens being the most vulnerable.

According to data shared by the Ministry of Health, unvaccinated and unboosted individuals have a significantly higher risk of death due to COVID-19 than individuals who are boosted. With Ramadhan approaching soon, senior citizens are urged to get boosted as quickly as possible. This comes as social distancing rules will be relaxed at places of worship including mosques from 1st April.

How to book for COVID-19 vaccine booster appointment on MySejahtera?

ProtectHealth has announced yesterday that booster dose appointments can now be made through the Booking Management System on the MySejathera app. If you’re not boosted, you can secure your appointment slots from 21st March 2022 onwards nationwide.

Users will be able to choose their preferred vaccination centre (PPV) as well as the preferred date and time via the app. To place a booking, just launch the MySejahtera app, go to the “COVID-19 Vaccination” section, tap on the name and then click on the link provided “Click here to book your appointment”. You can search for your preferred PPV, select your options and confirm the booking.

Walk-in vaccinations are also available at selected PPVs. You can find the list of participating centers on ProtectHealth’s website.
