Malaysia’s Communications and Multimedia Minister Dato Saifuddin Abdullah has contracted COVID-19. According to his Facebook page, the minister had received his COVID-19 test results yesterday which returned positive.

The statement said that Saifuddin will be isolated according to the recommendations by the Ministry of Health. He’s currently quarantined at home while waiting to be admitted to the hospital. During his quarantine period, the minister will continue to monitor and ensure that his Ministry continues running smoothly. He also thanked everyone for their prayers and he apologises for any inconveniences caused.

At the time of writing, there are no details on how he contracted virus. His deputy, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin had previously tested positive for COVID-19 in January and has recovered.

Last month, it was reported that Saifuddin had delayed his vaccination as he wished to receive the COVID-19 vaccine together with media practitioners. He also expressed his preference to receive the China-developed Sinovac vaccine to prove that it’s safe.
