Zak Brown welcomes Google as McLaren’s partner, by tweeting them on his iPhone

Just yesterday, we saw McLaren announce that Google has signed up in a multi-year deal to become and official partner of the McLaren Formula 1 and McLaren MX Extreme E team from this year onwards. As such, it’s no surprise to see McLaren Racing CEO tweet about it… except it seems as though no one bothered to let him know that Twitter tells people what device you were using to tweet.

In case you don’t see it, it says ‘Twitter for iPhone’ right next to the date of the tweet, meaning that Brown used an iPhone to tweet out his welcome to Google. In fact, a quick check of his account shows that most of his tweets prior to this were posted via an iPhone.

However, it looks like the McLaren PR team quickly got this covered, as Brown’s next tweet now says ‘Twitter for Android’. In fact, it doesn’t seem like it’s any run-of-the-mill Android device either, as it shows him with McLaren’s F1 drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo taking a selfie using a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, arguably one of the best Android devices right now.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra of course is the latest flagship from the Korean giants, and sees them return with a similar design philosophy and approach as the Galaxy Note devices of old. It has a 6.8-inch, QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display while under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor mated to up to 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Furthermore, if Brown previously used WhatsApp on his iPhone, he would’ve been pleased to know that currently WhatsApp supports cross platform chat backup migration from iOS to Samsung devices running Android.

As for the partnership deal between McLaren Racing and Google, it will see the Android logo plastered over the engine cover of the McLaren MCL36, their new F1 car for the upcoming 2022 season. On top of that, the colours of the Google Chrome logo will also be on the MCL36’s wheel covers. You can read more about that deal here.
