Apple’s most affordable 5G-enabled smartphone, the 3rd gen iPhone SE, is now available for pre-order in Malaysia. Essentially, this is an iPhone 8 which gets a newer Apple A15 Bionic chip similar to the iPhone 13.
To recap, the new iPhone SE starts from RM2,099, which is RM100 more than the previous iPhone SE from 2020. Here’s the official pricing:
Similar to the previous generation model, it is available in just 3 colours – Midnight (Black), Starlight (White) and (Product)Red.
The new iPhone SE is officially available for pre-order in Malaysia starting today, 18th March 2022 and stocks will be available from 25th March 2022. You can pre-order your unit on the official Apple Online Store as well as authorised resellers such as Machines, Switch and Lazada. Alternatively, you can also get it on a telco contract at participating telcos.
The new iPhone SE features the classic iPhone design with a 4.7″ Retina HD display and a home button with an integrated Touch ID. Under the hood, it runs on an Apple A15 Bionic chip and it has been purported to come with 4GB of RAM, which is similar to the iPhone 13. In terms of cameras, it retains the same single 12MP main camera and a front-facing 7MP selfie shooter. Although it has no Night Mode, the new iPhone SE supports Smart HDR 4 and Deep Fusion thanks to its upgraded Neural engine with the A15 chip.
Also included as standard is IP67-rated dust and water-resistance, and Apple has upgraded the glass for both front and back for greater durability. Although the battery capacity is not mentioned, the new iPhone SE boasts 15 hours of video playback on a single charge, which is 2 is more than the previous model. It also supports fast charging with a 20W USB-PD power adapter that’s sold separately. Unfortunately, there’s no wireless charging or Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support. There’s also no 3.5mm headphone jack but you do get stereo speakers.
If you’re looking for a budget iPhone that has a bigger screen and battery, you might want to consider the iPhone 11 which is priced from RM2,399 for the 64GB model. Although it runs on an older Apple A13 Bionic chip, it gets a larger 6.1″ Liquid Retina HD display, Face ID, and two 12MP cameras at the rear which does ultra-wide-angle shots.
