The iPhone SE 2022 is upgraded with the same amount of RAM as the iPhone 13

The latest 3rd gen iPhone SE for 2022 has the power of the iPhone 13 in a classic old iPhone body. Besides having the latest flagship-class A15 Bionic chip, it appears that the new iPhone SE also offers better multi-tasking with increased RAM.

The folks at MacRumors have confirmed via developer Moritz Sternemann that the new iPhone SE will come with 4GB of RAM, which is a 33% upgrade from the 3GB of RAM offered on the 2nd gen iPhone SE from 2020. This was discovered from strings within Apple’s Xcode 13.3 Release Candidate which specifies the amount of RAM for iPhone and iPad models.

With more RAM, the new iPhone SE should be capable of running more apps simultaneously, reducing the chance of apps being killed in the background. For those who plan to do some photo and video editing on the tiny 4.7″ screen, the extra RAM also helps significantly especially when handling multiple layers. From our past experience with the iPhone 8 with 2GB of RAM, it struggled even when it comes to rendering 4K video on iMovie.

As a reference, the iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 all come with 4GB of RAM as standard. In recent years, Apple has bumped the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro series with 6GB of RAM, which makes sense since they are pushing the new Pro iPhone models as a pro-grade video capturing tool.

While it is good that Apple is setting 4GB of RAM as the bare minimum even for its entry-level model, it is still odd to see 64GB of storage still being offered in 2022 for a phone that costs over RM2,000. Of course, you can go for the 128GB version which costs RM200 extra. The iPhone 13 series which was launched last year came with 128GB of storage for the base model.

To recap, the iPhone SE 2022 is officially priced at RM2,099 for the 64GB model, RM2,299 for 128GB and RM2,799 for the 256GB version. The device is available for pre-order in Malaysia starting at 9am on 18th March 2022 and stocks will be available from 25th March 2022.
