Did VIPs cause the restart of ‘The Batman’ movie at TGV Vivacity? Here’s TGV’s response

Over the weekend, it was alleged that some “VIPs” had caused ‘The Batman’ movie to be restarted halfway at TGV Vivacity in Kuching. On Saturday, a moviegoer had posted on social media that the movie scheduled at 7.15pm was restarted after 45 minutes.

When asked why the movie was restarted, the staff said it was because there were customers who had just come in. Obviously, this didn’t sit well for other moviegoers who had entered the cinema hall on time and there were speculations that the cinema had restarted the movie to accommodate certain individuals.

On Sunday evening, TGV posted an apology to all guests affected by the session delay for ‘The Batman’ at TGV Vivacity at 7.15pm on 5th March 2022. It acknowledged that the incident does not adhere to their SOPs as all movie sessions are meant to run on time as per schedule. They have also offered two complimentary tickets and a full refund to all impacted guests.

After completing their investigation, TGV has issued a new statement today to provide clarity on the matter. According to the cinema operator, the delay for the movie was caused by a technical issue at their IMAX hall and it is not due to the late arrivals of VIPs. Despite MalaysiaKini’s report, TGV has denied issuing any statement or official confirmation to the media that VIPs are the cause of the delay.

Before the evening show, TGV said they had experienced delays for IMAX shows in the morning and in the afternoon due to a technical issue. Although they have solved the problem, TGV said there was a miscommunication with some of their staff at the entrance who presumed that the 7.15pm show will also be delayed.

At the time, 20% of guests have already entered the hall while 80% of other moviegoers were still waiting at the foyer while the movie had already started. It appears that the staff had restarted the movie after the remaining guests were ushed to the hall.

TGV has acknowledged that the decision to stop and restart the movie has inconvenienced their customers and it is not keeping with their screening policy. They assured that they are taking steps to ensure that this does not happen again. As promised earlier, they will provide full refunds and two additional complimentary movie tickets to affected guests.

If you do want to watch ‘The Batman’ like a VIP, TGV is offering a Private Cinema experience where you can get the entire hall to yourself. According to TGV’s website, you can choose from Classic, Beanie or LUXE halls. Besides movies, you can rent their halls for gaming parties, birthday celebrations, or a family gatherings.
