Wait, Android Spotify users never had “swipe to queue” before this?

I’ve always loved the swipe feature on Spotify where it can straightaway queue a song, without me needing to select it through the song’s settings. But it comes as a shock to me as I found out Spotify users on Android do not have that feature. In fact, the feature is only now rolling out to them.

In a thread on Reddit posted a couple of days ago, a user pointed out that Spotify has just added the feature for Android users. They’ve also added a video to show how it works.

Basically, the feature—which doesn’t really have its own name—is a convenient little feature that lets its users add songs to queue super quickly, with very little fuss. You’d just swipe a song from the left side of the screen to the right and a notification would pop up saying that the song is in your queue. It means that the song you queued would play next.

I’ve used the swipe feature to make quick on-the-spot playlists for road trips or for at-home spa days. Without it, I’d have to press on the three dot icon that takes you to the song’s settings. From there, you’d get all sorts of options, but choosing it to put a song on queue can be a lot slower, and a lot more troublesome. So, I’m surprised that they haven’t introduced it to Android users sooner.

Users on Reddit added their two cents on the matter. One of them noted that one of the reasons Spotify might not have officially announced introducing the feature to Android now is because “it would just bring attention to the fact that they’ve been lagging”. Another user said that the lack of this feature is “quite literally one of the biggest reasons” they switched to iOS.

The feature seems to be rolling out to Android users already. But apparently, it is currently only to a small number of users for testing before it is more widely released. Let me know if you’re able to use this feature on your Android device.
