All-in-one desktop computers aren’t exactly very common, as despite being ready to go out of the box, they also typically have weaker hardware and poor displays. Arguably the best all-in-one right now may actually be the Apple iMac, but for those who would rather stick with Windows, there aren’t many that offer decent hardware while looking the part too. Enter the Huawei MateStation X.
Huawei MateStation X specs
The Huawei MateStation X is technically not a new machine, having first been introduced in the Chinese market late last year. During MWC 2022 though Huawei announced that they’ll be bringing it to the global market. If you’ve seen their ultra sleek MateView lineup of monitors, you can picture one of them but with a computer inside it as well.
You’ll find a 28.2-inch, 3:2 IPS touchscreen display with a 3840 x 2560p resolution. Seeing as the MateStation X is likely targeting working professionals as well, the display actually has great colour accuracy, with a deltaE<1 and a 100% coverage of the sRGB gamut. It’s peak brightness tops out at 500nits with a contrast ratio of 1200:1, and it comes with HDR400 certification too. Fans of the sleek industrial design will be pleased with the 92% screen-to-body ratio too. However, unlike actual MateView monitors, you won’t be able to hook it up to your wall via a VESA mount.
Under the hood, like many all-in-one desktop PCs, it packs a mobile processor but not the U-series ones meant for thin-and-lights. Instead, there’s an AMD Ryzen 5 5600H or Ryzen 7 5800H mated to 16GB of DDR4 3200MHz RAM and a 512GB SSD. There’s also no dedicated graphics card but the integrated AMD Radeon Graphics should be decent enough for very light gaming. According to the Huawei MateStation X product page, it comes with Windows 10 Home out of the box, but should be able to upgrade to Windows 11.
Elsewhere, there’s a quad-microphone array with a 5-meter pickup range, along with a pair of 5W speakers on top of a 10W subwoofer. If you’re not feeling the speakers, there’s a 3.5mm headset and mic jack too, as well as two USB-C ports and two USB-A ports. The Huawei MateStation X also comes with a wireless Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, the latter of which has a fingerprint sensor for biometric security. As for connectivity, it supports Bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6.
Unfortunately, there’s no news on final pricing and availability, though we understand that it’ll start at EUR2,199 (~RM10,229.25) in Europe. As a quick comparison, when Huawei launched the MateStation X in China, the AMD Ryzen 5 variant began at CNY9,999 (~RM6,644.98), with the higher tier Ryzen 7 model costing CNY11,999 (~RM7,974.11). It’s certainly not cheap, and if you’re not actually tied to Windows that much you could consider the Apple iMac too which starts at RM5,599, though it’s smaller with just a 24-inch display.
