Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) through its wholly-owned subsidiary Allo Technology Sdn Bhd (Allo) has expanded its fibre broadband footprint in Perak and it aims to cover 300,000 premises in Peninsular Malaysia by the end of this year. In Perak alone, Allo currently covers 56,132 homes in 6 locations. This brings the total number of Allo fiberised premises to more than 180,000 across Melaka, Perak, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor.
According to TNB, the latest network expansion is in line with JENDELA‘s aspiration to bridge the digital divide and to provide gigabit fibre access to 7.5 million premises by the end of 2022. According to the last Q4 2021 quarterly report released in October last year, there are a total of 6.427 million premises passed with fibre access which is 85.69% of the target.
In Perak, Allo’s fibre network covers Sungai Rapat (16,483 premises), Kinta (17,144 premises), Menglembu (12,497 premises), Silibin (2,790 premises) and Tasek (2,620 premises). TNB’s venture into fibre broadband services started in Jasin, Melaka as part of the National Fibre Connectivity Plan (NFCP) pilot project launched in 2019.
TNB Chairman Dato Sri Hasan Arifin said the broadband facilities enables more Perak residents to gain highspeed broadband access at affordable prices while empowering the people through various aspects including digital economy development, education and community building, especially during the challenging economic environment caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. TNB’s Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network is implemented with an open-access network that maximises the high-speed broadband potential through partnerships with retail service providers (RSP) such as Maxis, Astro, Digi, Celcom, U Mobile, Freshtel and Redtone.
The backbone of the service is TNB’s own 18,000km long fibre optic network. They are using its extensive infrastructure which includes TNB’s electric poles to connect to customers across Peninsular Malaysia. This is said to be TNB’s advantage in line with its aspiration to be a leading sustainable energy solutions provider in both Malaysia and internationally.
