The Redmi Note series has always had some of the greatest value-for-money phones on the market. With the arrival of Xiaomi’s new Redmi Note 11 series, we meet their best mid-range phones yet, with flagship features as well as reasonable prices.
Despite being a “budget” series, the Redmi Note 11 has solid specs and features across the board and that’s why it’s been dubbed the “mid-range king”. Let’s take a deep dive into the details of these devices to see if they earned the title.
If you need a quick refresher, there are four models in the lineup: the Redmi Note 11, Redmi Note 11S, Redmi Note 11 Pro and the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G. Every model in the series except for the base model features a 108MP main sensor, with the Note 11 getting a 50MP primary sensor instead. Xiaomi claims that images captured with this new camera system will give you a higher dynamic range as well as colour performance. They also mention excellent results in dim light, which is great news as that’s where many budget phones struggle.
All models also get an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP macro camera, with all but the 5G model getting an additional 2MP depth camera. This array of lenses will help you capture your subject from both far away and up close.
For selfies, the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11S feature a 16MP in-display camera on the front of the device. Meanwhile, the base model gets a 13MP in-display front camera. This is more than enough to capture clear selfies and even for recording videos for Instagram or TikTok.
One of the most important factors of a smartphone is how smooth and responsive it feels. Fortunately, the Redmi Note 11 series has great specs in this regard. The Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G have high refresh rates of up to 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360Hz. When it comes to refresh rates, the Redmi Note 11 series can rival flagship smartphones from many different competitors.
A larger refresh rate can result in smoother animations, less lag and a high touch sampling rate can give you more precise finger taps and swipes. If you’re a gamer, this will be even more apparent as you want the most accurate inputs when playing mobile games.
The 11 and 11S feature a 6.43” FHD+ AMOLED display and the size jumps to 6.67” with the 11 Pro and 11 Pro 5G. AMOLED is not always present at this price point, so it’s nice to see that Xiaomi added it to this series. The screens on the Redmi Note 11 should produce vibrant colours and blacker blacks, and will perform consistently in bright daylight as well.
Design-wise, the display looks quite clean with its small punch-hole in the centre-top of the screen, all packed into a flat-edge body that many fans adore. On the top and bottom of the phone, you will find “super linear” speakers, which means both speaker sets play at an equal volume. This gives you a proper stereo experience when watching content in landscape mode.
For a mid-range series, the Redmi Note 11 is powered by processors that pack a decent punch. The Pro 5G gets an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor with flagship-level 6nm technology and a clock speed of up to 2.2GHz. Moving on to the 11 Pro and 11S, they get an octa-core MediaTek Helio G96 processor with up to 8GB of RAM. The base Redmi Note 11 model gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor.
But what do these processors actually mean? Having flagship-level technology means your apps will be able to run smoothly, while still consuming power efficiently.
Speaking of power, all four phones in the series are equipped with a large 5,000mAh battery to keep the lights on. Even when talking about flagship phones, a 5,000mAh battery is massive, with many of them having batteries of between 4,000 to 4,500mAh. Given that the Note 11 series is classified as mid-ranged, this figure is quite impressive.
To fill up these large batteries, the 11 and 11S offer 33W fast charging, which Xiaomi claims can get you to 100% in around an hour. The 11 Pro and 11 Pro 5G on the other hand are capable of getting 67W turbo charging, which reportedly takes as little as 15 minutes to fill up 50% of battery.
Given that the Redmi Note 11’s specs have not disappointed in any aspect and was even at a flagship level when it comes to things like refresh rate and battery size, it’s no surprise that it’s been called the “mid-range king”.
