Realme backtracks, now confirms Realme Pad to get Android 12

Just a couple of weeks ago, Realme revealed in a community forum FAQ that they won’t be updating their popular entry-level Realme Pad tablet to Android 12. This was despite the Realme Pad still being a new device, having only being launched in Malaysia just a couple of months ago. Well, they eventually removed that section from their community forum FAQ, and have since announced that they will in fact be updating the Realme Pad to Android 12.

Madhav Sheth, Realme’s Vice President tweeted out the announcement, and also gave us a time frame of when Realme Pad users can expect the Android 12 update, which would be some time in Q3 this year. Realme has also mentioned that this update brings a number of new features like an enhanced lock screen, better notification UI, scrolling screenshots, a one-handed mode and improved widgets too.

There’s no word though if Android 12 would be the only major OS update the Realme Pad gets, nor did Realme specify if they’ll be including Android 12L in the update. Android 12L of course is a special feature drop for Android 12, which brings numerous quality of life upgrades for large display devices like tablets and foldables. Their target of Q3 2022 for the Realme Pad to get Android 12 is also pushing it very close to when we can expect Android 13 to launch, meaning that it could still be an OS version down on the latest when the Realme Pad gets Android 12. Nevertheless, users can still expect to get security updates for it until some time in 2023.

With the promise of Android 12 on board, the Realme Pad’s prospects now look much better than before. As a quick recap, the Realme Pad starts at RM899, and offers a 10.4-inch WUXGA+ LCD display with quad speakers too. There’s a MediaTek Helio G80 processor underneath with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. Powering it all is a fairly decent 7,100mAh battery that can last you up to 12 hours of video playback too, along with 18W fast charging.
