The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is undeniably one of the best value for money flagship smartphones from Samsung that you can buy at the moment. Besides packing flagship features at a lower price point, die-hard fans in Malaysia were happy that it came with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor.
In a statement sent to 9to5Google, Samsung revealed that the Galaxy S20 FE sold 10 million units in just over a year since its introduction in Q4 2020. It added that it’s one of their best-selling Galaxy smartphones over the past year. The FE aka the Fan Edition has definitely helped to increase their sales in 2021 at a time when the Galaxy S21 series was reported to have the worst performance in 10 years.
According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung sold 13.5 million units of the Galaxy S21 series for the first 6 months since launch. As a comparison, the previous Galaxy S20 series sold 20% more units in the first 6 months, while the Galaxy S10 did even better with 47% more units sold in the same period.
The Galaxy S20 FE was launched in Malaysia at RM3,399 for the 5G variant with 256GB of storage. After that, Samsung Malaysia released a cheaper LTE version that came with an Exynos processor with 128GB of storage for RM2,699. After that, Samsung replaced the Galaxy S20 FE LTE model with a Snapdragon version and it was sold at an even lower price of RM2,299.
Given its popularity, it makes sense for Samsung to release a sequel in the form of the Galaxy S21 FE. The device was originally expected to launch around August to October last year but it was delayed until early January 2022. The delay was reported to be due to a shortage of chips and Samsung was keeping all their Snapdragon 888 chips and supply chain capacity for their latest Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold 3 devices.
In case you missed it, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE was launched this week and it’s priced from RM2,899. The device seems to be a little late to the party considering the Galaxy S22 series will be launched very soon. In addition, some fans were disappointed to find out that the Galaxy S21 FE for the Malaysian market will come with an Exynos 2100 processor instead of a Snapdragon 888.
If you’re interested in the Galaxy S21 FE, Samsung Malaysia hasn’t revealed its pre-order details yet. It is speculated earlier that the device will be sold as early as 11th January 2022.
