Samsung Galaxy S21 FE: Almost everything you need to know has been revealed

[ UPDATE 28/12/2021 17:00 ] Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is set to launch in Malaysia on 5th January 2022.

Another day, another new Samsung Galaxy S21 FE leak it seems. As we edge closer and closer to its speculated release date of January 2022, a new deluge of details regarding the Galaxy S21 FE has appeared, and might be a bit disappointing to those who may have been hoping for the return of fan favourite features like a 3.5mm headphone jack.

This new leak comes courtesy of Roland Quandt of German website WinFuture. According to him, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE will come with a 6.4-inch, flat Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with a FHD+ resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. The display seems to have thinner bezels than before, and as its name implies lacks the curved edge displays seen on the likes of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It’ll also come with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus over it for scratch resistance.

In the camera department, Quandt claims that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE will have a triple rear camera setup, with a 12MP, f/1.8 main camera that features dual-phase detection autofocus and optical image stabilisation. It’ll be flanked by a 12MP, f/2.2 ultrawide angle camera and an 8MP, f/2.4 telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom. As for the front camera, it’s a 32MP, f/2.2 selfie shooter that will sit in a punch hole cutout at the center of the display.

Elsewhere, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip mated to either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. Unfortunately, there won’t be a microSD card slot, something its leaked manual from before also alluded to. Quandt is also claiming that the Galaxy S21 FE will come with the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 instead of Android 12. It’s a curious decision by Samsung if that were true, considering other Galaxy S21 devices can already get Android 12. Perhaps it’s Samsung releasing it with Android 11 so that they won’t need to update it to Android 15 and that it’ll be streamlined with the rest of the Galaxy S21 lineup.

Other reported specs include a somewhat mediocre 4,500mAh battery with unspecified fast charging speeds and reverse wireless charging too. It’ll also have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating, dual SIM card slots and an underdisplay fingerprint reader. Unfortunately, there won’t be a 3.5mm headphone jack, another fan favourite feature. It also only gets Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, though there will still be WiFi 6 and NFC. The Galaxy S21 FE is slated to come in white, black, olive and lavender, and will start at €749 (~RM3,572.63).

If Quandt’s claims are true, it might be a rather disappointing ‘Fan Edition’ device. It’s lacking some features that would be easy ways to get fans behind them, like a 3.5mm jack and expandable storage. It should also be noted that Quandt has a fairly decent track record when it comes to Samsung Galaxy devices, and is more often than not pretty reliable. Nevertheless, these are still just rumours for now, and we’ll still need to wait for the official word from Samsung.
