Here are the newest editing tools on TikTok that you can take advantage of

TikTok announced that they have released a few new editing features to help you make content on TikTok. While a couple of the new features don’t seem to be available yet in Malaysia, there are some others that you can utilise.

“At TikTok we believe that you shouldn’t need to be a pro at video editing or an award-winning filmmaker to make easy, eye-catching and entertaining content. Easy and intuitive tools empower people to express their creativity without limits,” wrote TikTok on their announcement page.

GIFs on green screen

The green screen effect on TikTok is one of the most popular effects I’ve seen being used. And it’s all due to how it can be used to show people images, screencaps, or videos that you have. You’re also able to treat the effect like an easy-peasy green screen wall—without needing to have a literal green screen.

But now, TikTok decided to one-up their already useful feature by adding GIFs through GIPHY. You can easily find the option next to your other images once you’ve chosen the green screen effect. You can then search for the GIF you want.

Enhance

TikTok has added an “enhance” feature. The button will “improve exposure, low-light, and color correction instantly”. It would work with footage uploaded from your camera roll or when shooting directly from TikTok.

To use the feature, take a TikTok video, or upload a video from your camera roll. You’ll then be able to see the “Enhance” button underneath the “Voiceover” button on the right side.

For footage that already has plenty of light, you might not be able to see the difference. But it does help filter out harsh lighting.

New voice effects

TikTok notes that they have added new voice effects in their “voice effects” feature—where people can make their sound “mimic a cat’s meow”, or sound like a flute or suona. However, I couldn’t find the feature yet on the app. I’m also actually not sure how our voices would sound like with a “flute” or “suona” filter, so I can’t wait to hear it when a TikTok with the effect does show up on my feed.

High quality uploading

Another feature that hasn’t shown up yet on our shores is the high-quality uploads feature. Supposedly, people can now choose to upload their videos in 1080p—but it’s only available for select countries. High-quality uploads would allow creators to share high-quality content and let audiences enjoy “an optimised viewing experience”.

“Sorry to inform you that the HD feature is not launched in MY market. Lets hope that it will be available soon!” said a TikTok Malaysia representative about the feature.

The TikTok representative hasn’t elaborated on why some features have yet to show up in Malaysia. We also do not have the captions feature that other countries have—which automatically makes captions to whatever people say in their TikToks. The feature is extremely useful for people hard of hearing.
