Instagram will basically introduce its own version of OnlyFans

Instagram is about to launch a new paid subscription feature to support its creators on the platform. The information was revealed by two analytics firms, reported by Techcrunch—as they confirmed that Instagram has recently added in-app purchase options to its U.S. app that are intended for “Instagram Subscriptions”.

The platform hasn’t said anything further about its plans with Instagram Subscriptions, but its likely part of its strategy to further monetise the platform. It’s also a way to let its creators make money off making content. However, with the news of it already showing up on the App Store, the official announcement of the new feature is expected in the near future.

One of the analytics firms also added that Instagram Subscriptions would be considered “in-app purchases”. Subscriptions would be priced from USD 0.99 (RM4.11) to USD 4.99 (RM20.72), and there would even be “badges” you can purchase at the same price.

Instagram Subscriptions sounds pretty similar to other paid subscription concepts like Patreon and OnlyFans. Twitter also introduced its own version of it with Super Follow, which lets followers subscribe to select accounts for exclusive content. Instagram’s own feature would probably offer subscribers the same thing, but with added Stories, Reels and other Instagram-related content.

Earlier this year, Instagram said it would explore the idea of creator subscriptions. It was later spotted developing a feature that would offer exclusive Stories that were only visible to a creator’s subscriptions.
