Astro could start streaming Netflix on the Ultra Box as early as next week

To expand its content offering, payTV operator Astro has announced a partnership with Netflix which will enable subscribers to stream Netflix directly from their Ultra and Ulti connected boxes. Astro even introduced a new remote control that comes with a dedicated Netflix button but the service isn’t available after more than 4 months since its initial announcement. Now it appears that Astro subscribers might be able to start streaming Netflix very soon thanks to a teaser by Netflix themselves.

The online streaming platform had dropped a huge “Red Notice” card at Astro’s headquarters in Bukit Jalil which replaces some characters of the “Beyond” fixtures. Red Notice is a new action thriller movie starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. The movie is scheduled to be released on the 12th of November 2021.

The teaser is an indirect indication that Astro subscribers will be able to watch the new movie via Netflix on the 12th of November. At the moment, Astro has not revealed its Netflix subscription pricing and details, and we are guessing that it could be offered with selected bundles similar to its arrangements with Disney+ Hotstar. The company is also having an upcoming event scheduled on the 9th of November to reveal a “New Astro Experience” and it is likely more info will be known during the event.

Astro which started off as a satellite-based pay-TV network aims to be Malaysia’s top aggregator of global streaming services. They have also introduced an Astro Ultra Plug & Play set-top-box which allows subscribers to enjoy live tv and video-on-demand content through the internet without requiring an external satellite dish. Besides entertainment, the company also aims to be a major internet service provider and they have partnered with TM to provide high-speed fibre broadband nationwide through the HSBB network.
