All iOS users on Twitter can now Super Follow select accounts for exclusive “subscriber-only” content

Twitter’s “subscriber-only” content feature—Super Follow—is now available for iOS users across the globe. Super Follow allows you to follow select accounts for exclusive content through monthly subscriptions, kind of like Patreon or YouTube’s Join option.

Super Follow was introduced in February this year, and Twitter posted a tweet thread in September explaining a little bit more about what it includes. Users who have Super Follow subscribers are able to post “subscriber-only” tweets. This means that users can share bonus Tweets and “interact authentically with their most engaged followers”—all while earning money.

According to Twitter, select users can set a monthly subscription of USD 2.99 (RM12.41), USD 4.99 (RM20.71) or USD 9.99 (RM41.46) a month for Super Follows. While it was difficult for me to find Super Follow creators charging all three price points, I managed to find a user who charges the cheaper option—but it was set at RM12.90 a month.

Users that have the Super Follow option are able to write their own promises to their subscribers. User @VelvetIsCake writes that they promise “exclusive private tweets”. As a Super Follower, you will also get a “Super Follower” badge that makes it easier for other Twitter users to notice you and connect with you.

These Twitter content creators who post for the Super Follow option are “eligible to earn up to 97 percent of revenue” from their subscriptions—after in-app purchase fees, with Twitter taking 3 percent of the profit. But if a user earns USD 50,000 (RM207,375), they will only earn up to 80 percent of revenue after in-app purchase fees, as Twitter will increase its share up to 20 percent of future earnings.

If you’re interested in earning money to tweet, you have to meet the minimum requirements. You have to be 18 or older, have at least 10,000 followers, and have tweeted at least 25 times in the past 30 days. Once accepted, they have to tweet a minimum of 25 tweets every 30 days. However, it’s only currently available for U.S. users.

For us Twitter users outside the U.S., we can only Super Follow these select few users—but only if we have iOS devices. For Android and web users, Twitter plans to expand Super Follows “in the future”.
