Posting Instagram photos from your desktop is now possible for all users

Previously, I reported that Instagram was testing out the feature, for a few users, that would let you post right from your desktop. And now, it seems that the test feature will be available to all users as it launches globally this week.

I first reported about the feature in June, and I had an account that could test out the ability to post videos and photos from my desktop then. Now, while I am still able to post on Instagram’s desktop site, it does look a little different from when it was first being tested.

After you sign in to your account on instagram.com, you’d still be able to click the + button on the top right of the page. However, instead of a wide rectangle telling you to select or drag your post in, you’re greeted with a smaller—and neater—square shape.

There are also subtle smaller differences when you compare the feature when it was being tested to now. This includes the moving the crop section to a tiny corner below your post, and changing the word “Edit” to “Adjustments” when you want to adjust your photo’s brightness and contrast—for example. But otherwise, the feature looks about the same.

The posting feature on your desktop is only available for Instagram posts—not for Stories or Reels. Although, it would be nice to have it added in eventually. Previously, there was a complicated way that users has to resort to if they wanted to upload their photos through their desktop browsers.

Instagram is also introducing other features to compete with TikTok. Head of Facebook Reality Labs, Vishal Shah, tweeted that they are testing a new way for people to co-author Feed Posts and Reels. This will give credit to more than one content creator for one post or Reel. The platform is also quietly testing out 60-second Stories to a select few users.
