COVID-19 vaccine update: Travel allowed for fully vaxxed and how to print your digital cert

In the latest COVID-19 vaccine update, we talk about the lifting of interstate travel restrictions in Malaysia after 90% of adults have been fully vaccinated. Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that interstate travel has been lifted but it is only for fully vaccinated individuals. He said there won’t be roadblocks at interstate highways but police will conduct random patrols and checks to ensure SOP compliance.

Transport operators which include land, air and sea must ensure that all passengers are fully vaccinated. Children below 18 years old who are not fully vaccinated are allowed to board if they are accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent or guardian. Individuals who can’t get vaccinated due to health reasons may be allowed to board if they present a valid vaccine exemption certificate.

Do note that Sarawak has its own entry requirements while Sabah has delayed the reopening of its borders for interstate tourism until 1st November.

Travellers planning to travel interstate to Balik kampung are urged to conducted a COVID-19 self-test to protect their relatives especially the elderly. A COVID-19 self-test kit costs less than RM20 and you can get results within 15 minutes.

Malaysians are also allowed to travel overseas and they are exempted from applying for MyTravelPass. However, upon return, mandatory quarantine is still required. As announced recently, mandatory quarantine for incoming international travellers who are fully vaccinated has been reduced to 7 days.

The National Immunisation Programme is currently focusing on vaccinating teenagers aged between 12 to 17 years old. To track the progress, you can view the vaccination status for all schools on COVIDNow. The new dashboard will display the percentage of vaccination for students and staff, as well as the breakdown of age groups.

For Klang Valley residents who have missed the previous walk-in vaccinations, you can still get the COVID-19 vaccine for free at government and private healthcare facilities. The special committee on ensuring access to COVID-19 vaccines have announced that you can still get vaccinated on an appointment basis by contacting the nearest public health clinic in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. If you prefer to get the vaccine jab at a private clinic, the Ministry of Health has also provided a list of 98 participating clinics that offer free COVID-19 vaccine jab here.
