Xpax Unlimited Prepaid is still “Truly Unlimited” if you signed up before 7th October 2021

Celcom has recently updated its Xpax Unlimited Prepaid offering which now comes with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) quota of 60GB per month. If you’re an existing customer who has signed up before 7th October, you will be happy to know that you won’t be affected by the new FUP.

According to Celcom, the new FUP is only applicable for new customers that have activated or change their starter pack from 7th October 2021. This means if you’re an existing Xpax Unlimited customer that signed up before that, you should still be able to use beyond 60GB in a month provided that it doesn’t violate the original FUP.

To recap, Celcom has imposed a monthly data cap of 60GB for new Xpax Unlimited Prepaid users under the new FUP. If you’re a weekly pass user, the cap is set at 20GB per week. Once you’ve hit your FUP limit, your speed may be throttled down to 512kbps until your pass expires.

In addition to the existing RM35/month “Unlimited” plan, Celcom has introduced a new option that costs RM3 extra. The new RM38/month pass also provides unlimited calls to all networks, 3Mbps of internet speed, free 3GB of data and an extra 5GB of uncapped internet quota which you can activate via the Celcom Life App.

The recent move to introduce the FUP is seen as an attempt to crack down on data abusers who might be causing congestion for the majority of users. A few months ago, Celcom has started suspending users for using the Xpax unlimited prepaid SIM on wireless broadband routers. Users that are found to be using the SIM on unauthorised devices will receive a warning via SMS and the data services will be suspended in two weeks. The Xpax unlimited prepaid plan is meant to be used on a mobile device and not to be used as a home broadband solution.
