VinFast e34: Vietnam’s first fully-electric crossover SUV fully revealed

Vinfast, a Vietnamese automotive manufacturer by Vingroup, has fully revealed the VF e34: Vietnam’s first electric car model. This model is said to have had 25,000 orders in three months ever since its launch back in March of this year.

The Vinfast VF e34 is an electric compact crossover SUV, and the smallest in the range of three electric cars announced by VinFast this year.

Design-wise, the vehicle features a rounded contour with a tall body, having a height of 1,613mm and a width of 1,793mm. On the front, the VF e34 is equipped with LED running headlights and overall has a modern and sleek finish. There are eight colours available for this model.

Its interior features a consistent dark colour and an information console in the middle with a touchscreen display, supporting both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The shape of the console is reminiscent of a flip-phone, with a vertical screen on the top.

This vehicle has a 110kW electric motor engine powered by a 42kWh battery running on 18-inch wheels. With these components, you can expect a torque of 242Nm and a range of 300km on a single charge. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any top speed or 0-100km/h acceleration figures.

Customers of the VF e34 will also receive remote software updates, vehicle issue diagnosis and warning, remote customer support, and a charging station location guide.

The Vinfast VF e34 is priced at 690 million VND (about RM125,452) and comes with a 10 year warranty. For the pre-order period, before June 30th, there was an offer price of 590 million VND (about RM107,271) with a free 12-month “battery subscription”, but that offer is now closed. The battery subscription can be bought separately for 62 USD (about RM257) a month and acts more like a warranty, replacing your e34 battery pack if the recharge capacity drops below 70% and if you have not travelled more than 1,400km.

The larger VF32 and VF33 models in the same range only get released next year, and will be sold additionally in Europe, Australia, the US, and Canada.

Vietnam seems to be way ahead of the curve when it comes to EV. Malaysia aspires to be an automotive hub in the region but our local car brands including Proton and Perodua have yet to reveal any EV products.

Proton Edar CEO Roslan Abdullah has stated that EVs are “not a positive investment yet”, even though Proton’s parent company Geely has its own range of EV vehicles. Unfortunately, Geely has said that they will not be bringing their EVs to Malaysia yet due to a lack of Malaysian government cooperation and incentive.

This will hopefully change soon, as MARii and PEKEMA have announced that they will be building 1,000 DC charging stations in Malaysia by 2025.
