In just three iterations, Samsung was able to turn the foldable concept into something polished. This simply hasn’t been done many times before. Many companies have tried to create products with niche features, but not many succeed in making something that actually sticks.
Because of Samsung’s push towards this idea, foldable phones have become a status symbol. Industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and generally people in power have been seen using them. This is because foldable phones are the epitome of technological innovation in the smartphone industry.
Compared to the first generation of these products, you can see the consumer feedback is important to them, as every iteration is more refined than the last.
Samsung calls the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 their toughest foldables yet. Both of them are IPX8 Water Resistant, making them the first water resistant foldables. They also have Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and back of the phones, making them tougher than the previous models. Their armor aluminum metal frame supports their light bodies while making them stronger than the previous models.
Now to get into the specifics of the Galaxy Z Fold3. From what we know so far, the Z Fold3 has a 7.6” display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is AMOLED 2X, meaning improved colour, HDR, and brightness.
The Galaxy Z Fold3 is also the first foldable smartphone to have a camera under its display, with no notch or hole on the screen. This provides an uninterrupted full view of your display.
The S Pen makes its first appearance in the foldable category with the Z Fold3. This supports note-taking during video calls, and even direct writing on the inner screen. Adding the S Pen to this phone is only natural given the large screen real estate available.
The Z Fold3 also has a multi active window feature with drag & drop, so you can multitask with up to three apps simultaneously. Video calls are also easier as you can stand your phone up to have hands-free video conferences. All these features are designed with UI and app continuity across the screen.
The Z Flip3 is similar to the Fold3, but folds horizontally instead of vertically, giving a more square folded look compared to the long vertical Z Fold design. When folded, it’s palm sized, making it very pocketable and easy to store in your bags too.
When it’s compacted, the Z Flip3 has a 1.9” Informative Cover Screen that’s four times bigger than the old Z Flip.
With Flex Mode, its folded form, you can take hands-free selfies with auto framing. There’s no need for a tripod or a separate stand to take stable pictures anymore.
Along with Flex Mode, content consumption gets easier with Easy App Control, so you can interact with your phone in a stable way.
There’s also a cool function called the Multi Window Feature with Drag & Split, allowing you to multitask with one app on the top and one on the bottom.
