Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung have just announced the Galaxy Z Flip 3 at today’s Galaxy Unpacked event. It features some choice upgrades over its predecessor, while keeping its smaller and sleeker build.
First, let’s look at the two displays on the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The main display is a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display that comes with a 120Hz refresh rate. Nothing too unusual there, but its cover screen gets an big upgrade as Samsung has fitted a 1.9-inch, 260 x 512 AMOLED display on it. It’s located right next to the rear cameras and has a pixel density of 302ppi, enough to give you details about your notifications and time.
Speaking of the rear cameras, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 has a dual rear camera setup. The main sensor is a 12MP wide-angle camera with optical image stabilisation, while above it is a 12MP ultrawide sensor. Selfies on the other hand get taken care of by a 10MP selfie camera. Everything is housed in what Samsung is calling an ‘Armor Aluminum’ frame, their strongest aluminum frame yet. And just to be very sure, Samsung have even tested the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s endurance by putting it through 200,000 folds before this. Fittingly, it also features IPX8 water resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus too.
Just like its larger sibling, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 system-on-chip underneath, mated to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. For storage, Samsung has given you two options with either 128GB or 256GB of storage, compared to its predecessor that only came with a 256GB option. There’s also a new One UI 3 custom built for Samsung’s new foldables for maximum combability and a better user experience.
Other features of note include a 3,300mAh battery with 15W fast charging and a side mounted fingerprint sensor. Similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 will have WiFi 6, NFC, 5G connectivity and dual-sim support via nanoSIM and eSIM, as well as stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos. And unlike its predecessor which came in just three colours, this time you get up to seven colourways: Cream, Green, Lavender, Phantom Black, Gray, White and Pink. The latter three options are Samsung.com exclusives though, so you’ll need to look there to get it.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 starts at USD 999. As for local pricing, availability and pre-order details, you’ll want to stay tuned for Samsung Malaysia’s announcement. In the meantime, you can check out the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s product page on Samsung’s website.
