COVID-19: 195 deaths and 17,105 cases today, active cases now over 200,000

Malaysia has recorded 17,105 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,163,291. There are 195 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 9,598.

The Ministry of Health has reported 12,297 new recoveries and a total of 950,029 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 81.67% while the mortality rate is now 0.83%.

There are currently 203,664 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,066 are in ICU while 537 require respiratory support.

Out of the 17,105 new cases today, 37 are imported while 17,068 are transmitted locally. Selangor recorded the most with 5,836 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 2,309 cases, Johor with 1,275 cases, Kedah with 1,036 cases, and Sabah with 1,010 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 30 new clusters today. There are 14 workplace-related and 14 community-linked clusters. Below is the breakdown of new clusters by state:

Over 98% of new cases are category 1 and 2 where COVID-19 positive individuals exhibit little or no symptoms. 13,990 out of 17,105 (81.70%) cases are from people who have not been vaccinated.
