COVID-19: 134 deaths and 16,840 new cases today, Sabah records over 1,000 cases

Malaysia has recorded 16,840 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 1,095,486. There are 134 new deaths reported and the death toll is now 8,859.

The Ministry of Health has reported 12,179 new recoveries and a total of 902,921 patients have recovered and been discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 134 while the mortality rate is now 8,859. In July so far, there a 3,689 COVID-19 deaths which is an average of 123 deaths per day.

There are currently 183,706 active cases remaining that are receiving treatment. 1,055 are in ICU while 532 require respiratory support.

Out of the 16,840 new cases today, 17 are imported while 16,823 are transmitted locally. Selangor still tops the list with 6,092 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 2,114 cases, Kedah with 1,281 cases, Johor with 1,104 cases, Negeri Sembilan with 1,079 cases and Sabah with 1,066 cases.

The Ministry of Health has identified 47 new clusters identified today. 24 are workplace-related and 17 are community-related.

Over 98% of cases reported today are categorised as Stage 1 and 2 who are experiencing light or no symptoms. 13,477 out of 16,840 cases (80.03%) are people with no vaccination history.
