PM: Fully vaccinated individuals may be allowed to cross districts soon

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has revealed that fully vaccinated individuals in Malaysia would soon enjoy some freedom under the proposed relaxation of SOP restrictions. He said this during his visit to Pharmaniaga LifeScience Sdn Bhd today.

He said to incentivise individuals who have completed their two-dose vaccination, the government may grant permission to go shopping or cross borders during the movement control order. The decision will be decided at the National Recovery Council meeting next week. If implemented, individuals may have to show their digital certificate in MySejahtera as proof of vaccination.

Muhyiddin said this is in line with the opening of more economic sectors when states transition to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP). In the Klang Valley, the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) has announced Operation Surge Capacity with the aim to vaccinate all adults in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor with a single dose by 1st August.

Starting today, all senior citizens (aged 60 years and above) in the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor without an appointment can walk-in to a vaccination center (PPV) to get the vaccine jab. However, those with existing appointments, are urged to follow their provided time and date. After Operation Surge Capacity is completed on 1st August, all remaining adults in the Klang Valley will be allowed to walk-in to their preferred PPV.

In Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, a total of 3.5 million have received at least one vaccine dose. The CITF aims to vaccinate the remaining 2.6 million adults in 16 days by increasing the vaccination capacity to 272,000 doses per day in the Klang Valley.

At the moment, Malaysia is administering three vaccines – Pfizer, Sinovac, and AstraZeneca. Both Pfizer and Sinovac have a 3-week interval between the first and second dose, while AstraZeneca has a longer interval of 9 weeks. A person is considered fully vaccinated 2-3 weeks after they have completed their second dose.
