Honor has confirmed it will be launching its Magic 3 5G flagship next month. In fact, the tweet from the official Honor account indicates that it will be a Magic 3 series, which means we could anticipate multiple models at the launch.
The Honor Magic 2‘s successor is scheduled to be revealed globally on 12th August. It is expected to feature a 48MP camera with a large 1/1.5-inch sensor, with zoom capabilities up to 100x.
The official Honor Magic 3 teaser video shows off its main camera which has a large camera bump. It doesn’t really show much and the teaser says “new era of revolutionary camera tech is on its way.”
Ahead of the launch, Ben Geskin has shared images of what the Magic 3 would look like. In one of the renders, it gets a rather sophisicated quad-camera layout that’s aligned vertically in the middle. The supposed Magic 3 will get a huge camera bump at the top for its main camera and there are 3 smaller cameras right below it.
Also visible is a dual-tone LED flash and an extra module which looks like it’s for laser auto focus. If you look closely, there’s a label that says “Matrix Camera, 48MP 1/1.5″ and 100x Zoom”.
The Magic 3 will run on the new Snapdragon 888+ chipset, which is a minor update over the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. Leakster @RODENT950 revealed that the Magic 3 series is codenamed Elizabeth with 3 models – ELZ-AN00, ELZ-AN10, and ELZ-AN20.
The Magic 2’s standout feature was that it was a slider phone where its front-facing sensors and camera as well as its earpiece were neatly tucked under the display in a slide-away section of the smartphone. It isn’t clear if its successor will continue to offer a sliding mechanism.
The Magic 3 supposedly comes with 6.76-inch dual-curved OLED screen that pushes 2772 x 1344 pixels resolution. The screen is said to come with double punch-hole in the top left section to house its selfie cameras.
A blogger even managed to sneak a photo of the device on Weibo which carried the model number ELZ-AN20. Based on the image below, it appears that the Magic 3 will have 12GB of RAM and runs on Android 11 with Magic UI 5.0 skin on top.
The standard model in the series might feature a 66W charger, while the pricier variants may come with a 100W charger and support for 50W wireless charging.
Besides the Magic 3, Honor is also expected to release a new foldable device soon. Reports have suggested that the smartphone maker is planning to release a Magic Fold which would feature an in-folding screen, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series.
Since Honor’s separation from Huawei, the smartphone maker is finally able to ship new devices with Google apps and services pre-installed. The recently introduced Honor 50 series was recently launched with Google Mobile Services (GMS) for global markets and it’s coming to Malaysia very soon.
