BMW Malaysia has introduced the new advanced BMW Live Cockpit Professional infotainment system for the new generation of the BMW 320i Sport. The newest model is priced at RM243,883. This is including a 5-year warranty with the Sales & Service Tax Exemption.
This Live Cockpit Professional system is not exactly new. The BMW 8 Series and the X5 featured it as well. This is the first time that it is coming to the BMW 320i Sport though. The ‘Professional’ part of the name refers to the state-of-the-art Operating system 7.0 (iD7), and to the larger screens.
The information cluster consists of two displays. The central information display is 10.25-inches and has a resolution of 1920×720, while the instrument display cluster features a 12.3-inch display. This is significantly bigger than the previous 5.1-inch.
The operating system upgrade will now match with the 7.0 featured in the regular BMW 320i, and will include voice activation with the simple phrase “Hey BMW”. The system is customisable, allowing the driver to prioritize important information.
The new BMW 320i Sport also comes with a new rev counter, fuel level, speed meters, and configurable widgets. These include sports scoreboards, driving data, and more.
“We are proud to locally assemble here with all-new technological updates for our customers in Malaysia.” said Hans de Visser, Managing Director of BMW Group Malaysia.
“The BMW 320i Sport has delivered close to 2,000 units since its January 2020 release, and this success comes as no surprise for the best-selling premium sports sedan in Malaysia.” he continued.
Just like the previous predecessor, both the front LED fog lights and the air curtains integrated into the outer air intakes are inserted into the front apron in a horizontal T. The wheels are still 18-inch light alloy with a V-Spoke Style 780 Bicolour.
The new model continues to offer features like the Reversing Assistant and Rear View Camera. This allows for convenience when reversing and in narrow streets. The system allows the driver to select from the Sport, Comfort, and Eco Pro driver experience modes. The new BMW 320i Sport also has a neat feature called ConnectedDrive. It reacts with an emergency call automatically if an accident occurs.
The car has the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds. It also retains the 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, and the 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. It is capable of achieving a top speed of 235 km/h and a maximum output of 184 hp. Consuming 6.3 litres of fuel per 100km, the 320i Sport generates 144 g/km of CO2.
Since the start of 2021, BMW vehicles in Malaysia became cheaper due to shorter 2-year warranty. For example, the BMW 320i Sport drops the price to RM 230,763 if you opt-out of the extended warranty. Even though this lowers the price, you still get a shorter coverage term, which for some people is a big downside.
The new BMW 320i Sport is offered in five colours: Phytonic Blue, Black Sapphire, Alpine White, Mineral Grey and Sunset Orange. Premium Black Leather Vernasca upholstery lines the interior of the car.
